Wheel sensor

Thanks for the suggestion, I will mention this to the dealership (wheel sensor). Strange to me that none of this registers on the on board computer.
Also the road is clear of dust and gravel build up.
 
The location in the video is the stretch of road that high lights the issue in both up hill and down hill directions, it also happens to be the road my girlfriend drives the kids to school on daily in this vehicle!!! ( SHE IS SCARED TO DRIVE IT) The vehicle will have the same issue intermitantly in other locations as well. This road is 100 miles from the dealership making your suggestion impracrical all be it a good idea. As far as component replacement the yaw rate sensor has been replaced. You will note in the video there are a few other sharper corners that I navigate at a higher speed with no VSC activation? There appears to be a sweet spot to make the issue occur between 35 and 40 MPH.

Sounds like you've built up some good will with the dealership. I'd ask them if they can get an engineer out there to meet you on that road - 100 miles be damned, it's an expensive car, your family's safety, etc. And if they agree, have them bring another 4Runner. Since you can duplicate it under those conditions consistently, they may be willing to make the trip. Especially since it'll be conclusive if it's just your 4Runner. Good luck!
 
Yes sir. It turns itself back on after several miles. Also why should I have to drive with such a feature turned off? Toyota should fix this issue....The whole point in having the VSC is for safety, at present its a Danger feature.

This seems odd to me ? I do this all the time and it stays off 100% until I shut of the truck or push the button again.
 
What NorthWest says. If your's turns back on by itself, sounds like something is wrong. Once off, should stay off until....... Be safe.
 
As I see it TRAC was activated, not VSC. VSC beeps and I didn't hear beeping on the videos. Theoretically TRAC is supposed to be activated when one wheel loose traction i.e. ABS sensors register that one wheel turns faster than other. In 2WD it applies only to rear wheels as far as I understand. So I think that either thresholds are not right, or sensors are faulty. As a remote possibilty it might be a bad tire somehow, frankly it's doesn't seem to be likely, but if nothing helps, may be it worth a try to do tires rotation at dealer expense or replace whole wheels with tires wth anotehr T4R as a test and try drive there agian. But to be honest I'm not a expert, so don't take me too seriously if you think it doesn' make sense : )

It's probably a long shot, but the speed where this is occurring while driving in "D", coupled with the fact there's no beeping (should be, with VSC, at least per the '10 manual) and having now heard the sound in the video, I can't help but be reminded of the behavior talked about in the thread below. If driving in 4th gear eliminates the problem, the thread might be worth a look.

Vsc or trac

■ VSC (Vehicle Stability Control)
Helps the driver to control skidding when swerving suddenly or turning
on slippery road surfaces
■ TRAC/TRC (Traction Control)
Helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from spinning when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads

Despite the lack of beep, like the dealership I think its the VSC engaging. This issue happens when coasting down hill while the wheels are not under power.
 
only thing you could do now is bring in the video and show the manager. than see if they can have a toyota field tech come out. even with a video they need to be able to duplicate it. as a toyota tech, i hardly see any 5th gen runners let along any TE come in at all, even for services. if i could test drive one or two i can see how sensitive it is and if its normal.
i know we recently had a brand new taco with a dealer installed 3 inch lift it had VSC issues. ended up just needed a zero point calibration. seems like this new VSC may be more touchy with larger tires and lift.
just yesterday i drove a tundra with VSC and oversize tires around a lope up hill on ramp to freeway, the VSC was going crazy, it wasnt jerking the truck but i can hear and feel it trying to apply the brakes at certain wheels.

the problem i think is even with a zero point, it done on flat land and not driving, its just to find the starting point and that is it. doesnt look like you have anything done to yours and its acting up. i have driven all stock toyotas with VSC and i push the vehicle to see how it is when they work, i dont feel it jerk the vehicle at all, it just applies the brakes at certain wheels and it feels pretty seamlessly. it just takes away throttle or holds it at a certain point if you have it floored till it regains control and than your back at full control again.

the jerking doesnt seem right. are those hills downhill or up? if it does it only when going down or up, find a circle up or down hill ramp near the dealer and try to duplicate it there. even have them take a TE or just a SR5 with VSC on the same area driving the same and see if it jerks. just my experience with VSC, it should be pretty smooth and no jerk like in your video

irrc, i dont think all toyota models with VSC beep when engaged.

The same thing happened to mine when I replaced the tires with Duratracs, scared the crap out of me! Tire pressure was the problem, way high. Dropped to 34psi, drove the same road, and no problems. It still has me freaked out a little. Hope you get this sorted out, because it's not a good feeling.
 
As a last resort we performed a zero point calibration this weekend at home exactly as described in the link below with a 2 cent piece of wire. Problem solved!! Thank you to all for your input.

This is what fixed it? This was mentioned in the 2nd post of this thread, and you said you preformed it on the 13th. Now it completely solved you're problem :shrug: all these post and 4 pages of.... :redbrick:
 
Wow lol. I read you had the zero point done already. Guess not.

I think anyone that raises and/or add non factory size rims/tires should have zero point done
 
Didn't the dealer do the zero point calibration as well?

THAT was probably his problem as I wouldn't trust a dealership to even change my oil.I wonder if they did ZPC again after they changed the Yaw dampener like they were supposed to. If it wasn't carried out completely then it wouldn't have any effect AND it's different between a KDSS and non KDSS truck.

Zero Pont Calibration x3

Seeing as this is a new vehicle with less than 8000 miles I decided to pursue the dealership rather than monkey with it myself. (NorthWest 4R)
The first Zero point calibration was performed at the first trip to the dealership and it had no affect to solve the problem. The second zero point calibration was performed after the yaw rate sensor was replaced at the dealership and again had no affect towards resolving the problem. Frustration led to the third zero point calibration performed by a couple of niceun's in a flat concrete parking lot with a laptop for a point of reference for instructions and a case of PBR and a piece of wire. This fixed the problem for what ever reason.
In retrospect with all the lessons learned here I agree a zero point calibration should be performed when changing from factory junk tires. Thanks again for all the positive input.
 
I have had one instance like this and surprisingly it was backing out of my driveway... the traction control was very noticeable when it happened. It was definitely more noticeable than any of my previous vehicles...
