Yes but you can also see that there is no mast antenna on the 4runners on the website...

You will like the LR3, look for an 05 or 06 you can get them for under $20k, and that is by far better than what a 4runner will offer you. And yes some of them have problems, but the Disco i have has worked wonderfly since day one, and so has the defender i had. Yes nearly everyone else will try to convince you otherwise, but the LR3 is a very nice and reliable car, and can outdo a 4runner offroad any day of the week.
Everyone on here who has had a land rover, theres had a problem, but think about it, theres only a handful of them here, the rest of the land rover owners are on the other forums enjoying there rovers.

That would be a good comparison to see...5th gen 4runner TE vs. LR3. I doubt that the LR3 will be "far better" than the 4runner...you will probably run out of off-road trails before you see a big difference b/w the two. The LR3 Terrain Response system is far from perfect since you cannot manually activate the rear locker. So, although the 4runner's 4wd system is complex, it does allow you to activate the rear locker anytime, which is a big plus off-road. The LR3 has the air suspension, but like all air suspensions, it is far from being reliable or durable.
Although there has been only a "handful" of LR3 owners on this forum, you have to account those other owners who responded to the survey i posted above showing just how piss-poor LR's durability is! So, if you take those surveyed owners out of the equation...and then take out those on the LAND ROVER forums (some of which i am a member of) who have had problems, then yeah, you will truly have a "handful" of LR3 owners who are happy. :toilet3:
BTW, how many miles do you have on your Disco? My brother, who was a big fan of LR, had a Disco II. He bought it new. It did fairly well up until around 50k miles (when warranty runs out). After that, all hell broke lose...literally! ABS went out. Tranny went out. Axles leaked. Interior bits fall off. Doors malfunctioned. Each of these problems were fixed over and over by the LR dealer...only to see it return within 5k miles.

Yes, boxy on somethings is a good look, but not on this 4Runner. I have seen box shaped vehicles that looked real good. The way they styled this 4Runner was not good.

Gas tank leaked (recalled), radio would not turn on, GPS would get lost (could not find current location), climate control stopped completely (processor replaced), battery died every 3 to 4 months, suspension would go to the lowest setting for no reason, steering wheel cover curled up and fell off revealing the airbag (afraid to get in the car), seat memory never worked - shutting off the car erased the memory (dealer gave up on that one), voice recognition (or lack thereof) - couldn't even understand the salesman, who was British - it never understood a single command.
My dealership, Holmes European Motors in Shreveport (excellent customer service, BTW) told me that it wasn't just my LR3 although they did repair everything under warranty.
Then there's my 04 4runner & 08 Landcruiser - zero problems!

The main reason I buy 4runners is because of their reliabilty!!Land Rovers....forget about it! I have 71k miles on it. I got the 3 amigos (ABS, Decent control, another also) a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a bad ABS sensor, that was the major thing and that was like a cheap fix. Bought it from the dealer with 6k miles on it in 05 (it was a lonaer car), and never hand any real problems. The freelander on the other hand is a POS.
Never had any leaking on the disco, you know it might have held up because my dad and i do the majority of the maintenance on it or his buddy whos got a shop does it. i wouldn't trust the car with stealerships.

I dont discount any of the bad things said on the LRs - as long as they are first hand accounts. It helps with the research as to what the main issues are/were and whether they were fixed.
I think an LR3 vs 5th Gen Trail offroad would be a good comparo as I made the connection simply because of the terrain systems they have and I think they would be pretty similar offroad. But put them on the highway (where we all spend much more time... come on... we do) and I think the gap would grow pretty substantially. Most people cannot have a vehicle for each situation (I'd like to think that I will one day!) so I am looking for a better compromise, not to mention it needs to look appropriate in a corporate parking lot and be fitting when I am in a coat and tie taking clients to lunch. This is where the 5th gen has fallen short for my personal needs.
I may seem like I am bouncing around, but just ran across this.

That would drive me completely 'round the bend.
I've had only a couple problems on my 03 4Runner. I've put 85k miles on it.
- heater fan stopped working last year. Expensive to fix.
- oxygen sensor
and the usual wear items - brakes.

Two reasons:
1. Learn about other SUVs
2. Invite them to join my group of off-roaders to come out and play
You can see from my past off-road events, our group consists of many brands of vehicles, inluding Jeeps, Lexus, Land Rovers, Nissans, etc.. I find off-roading with just one brand to be a bit boring. This way, i don't subscribe to blind enthusiasm...like some people (hint: YOU!).

Very glad to see that you got a chance to see this 5Th gen at Uwharrie! Thank you for the pic's and i am sure if it was a Trail Edition i might of been a little more impressed with it. Overall i was very excited about the 5th gen and looking at the videos on-line i still like it. I just think the Trail Edition is the one to get and it is more attractive as well. I was at Uwharrie that same day only i didn't make it out to the post until around 10:30. I talked to a couple guys from Toyota Fayetteville that where there helping out for the Rockvember event that was going on. I was even e-mailing the guy with the Tundra that you saw out there but i missed him. I wished i saw you out there it would of been cool to hit the trails with a fellow 4Runner. It was my first time out and i had a blast! I even went back last weekend again. I am going to the delership here in Charlotte,NC tonight for my 08' and i will be sure to see if they have any 5Th Gen's on th lot. I am not interested in getting one though, I LOVE my 2008 and i plan on keeping it for a very long time!

I am glad that they made the 2010 T4R with more cargo volume, but not sure I like the outside styling? Kind of boxy and Nissan SUV looking! I guess it's in the fenders too!
