86' 4runner gets VooDoo'd

another Winston Salem runner owner here....

with a 2nd gen and a trailer. both are works in progress both neither are nearly as far along as I'd like.

If you wouldn't mind another rookie tag along on a trail ride, I'd like to come along.

Got some more goodies installed.

I upgraded to T100 rotors, calipers, master cylinder, and v6 dual diaphragm booster. I had been needing more braking power for a while. Between the oversized tires, and alk the added weight, stopping distances had increased.

I had been thinking of changing wheels for a while and found some procomps I liked. I'm pleased with the outcome.

Less than 2 weeks till Moab, then FJ Summit, then on to WY, MT, and the black hills of South Dakota.

I've still got a lot I want to get done.

Did the brake upgrade make that much of a difference? All new components? I'm looking for brake upgrades as well.

The brakes did make a very noticable difference. The rotors have much more
mass, and the calipers are 4 piston, vs 2 and are substantially larger as well.
The only modifications needed were to cut the heat shield on the back side of the rotor so the larger calipers could go on.

Yeah, that's a good example that the yours is a one-of-a-kind. So recognizable, when I saw it I said to myself that it must be a couple months old because it's two sets of rims ago with the white walls out and pre-bumpers.

That was April of last year on the way to an NC FJ Cruiser cruise in. I had just installed the 1" body lift(front bumper is crooked because it was temporarily mounted) and the rear bumper, the night before, and didn't have even have rear shocks on it for the 3 hr ride down and back.

I was feeling a little inspired by your door siding so a buddy of mine and I went and made some. 1/8 inch plywood, they're just waiting to get some speakers installed in them and get a nice coat of grey rhino lining type substance. (Textured Paint)

That bare metal strip should never have been covered in vinyl!

In those photos, it was 33x10.5r15s on the original 16x7 SR5 wheels.

Nice. Looks like you got rid of the hidden fasteners? I detest those. I have started to replace mine with plastic expansion nuts as I touch each section. Already did it to my grille fasteners.

Do you ever rest your arm on the window sill while driving? The vinyl will protect the paint and ultimately the metal from salt from our sweat that will promote rust.

I prefer the look of the painted section being visible. As long as the metal is covered by paint, sweat won't cause rust. If it were bare metal it would definitely be an issue.
