Now earlier ones like 83 back came with the double timing chain and dome pistons and concave heads. I prefer the older ones. They have alot more torque. 20r was the predisesor to the 22r and share the same head, crank, and timing componants.
I have recently acquired an 86 model with a blown 22R and want to replace. Will any 22R work (Tercel, Van, Truck)? Thanks for the help. I am just beginning this project so I'm sure I will need all expertise I can get. Thanks.
wouldnt that be in theory a hemi??? one thing i remember about my fathers 1979 toyota is that he would always say it had a hemi. hemispherical head design? was he right or full of it?

Thanks for the advice. Is that a fairly direct swap for my model.
