86 to 95 cigarette lighter issue

I tried everything possible not to have to pull the dash out. I pulled the wire from the back of the lighter socket and tested 12v..... wtf and the lighter still wasnt working.
Pulled the lighter out and tested from the middle pin inside the socket to the rear pin...nothing. If you look at the back you see a small wire that connects the inner copper to the outter ring.
From using my air compressor so much the wire heated and melted inside the insulation.
solution ..replaced the wire with a piece of cloth hanger wire. bit@h wont melt again!

Steel? That ought to suck.

The reason you're melting stuff is, your asking too much of this circuit, and for some reason your fuse isn't doing the thinking for you.

run a larger gauge circuit before you cremate your truck.

Put some clamps on that compressor and hook it straight up to the battery, anything more than a phone charger in the cigarette lighter is always a bad idea.

^ This times 10,000. Melting shit is bad. The fuse should have tripped well before that wire melted, you need to replace the cig lighter fuse right now and consider yourself lucky you didn't burn your truck down.

And yeah, take off that silly 12v plug and put some alligator clamps on your power wires.
