93'-98' Toyota Supra Twin Turbo VS. Nissan Skyline R34

These two classics are always in the tuner racing games and I've always seen them as being competitors. So in all ranks of competition which car is overall the winner?

By the way my dad owns a 97' Supra twin turbo 6spd. man. 15th annv. ed. So I might be a little bais.:banana:

Sorry I'm gonna be on the other end. Skyline GTR for me. it's my favorite car in the world the BNR34. followed closely by the BNR32 and BNR33. don't get me wrong give me a 94-98 supra with a 2jz and I'd be happy but I gotta say what draws me to the skyline are the looks followed very closely with the power and the ATTESA awd system. this should be a very good tread as both are very similar and not-so similar and both have HUGE fan bases.

Similar- Inline six turbo (twin turbo for the 2jz and rb26 while 1jz and rb25 for single) two door coups, Japanese, aftermarket support.

Non-similar- GTR is awd (GTST is RWD) weight. engine size (2.5-2.8L for the skyline and 3.0L for the toyota) toyota was available with an auto.

I voted Supra because it's my favorite sportscar of all time. Also it was available state side and it's a Toyota. Yes a little bias. The R33 is my favorite Skyline then the R34, but these required importing and it's RHD.

But in terms of performance, I would give the nod to the R34 because AWD. Both cars have huge aftermarket support.

The 1997 Supra was the best year for the MKIV! Anniversary Edition and last year for twin turbo in CA. The 1996 Supra TT was only available with the auto.

I agree, the AWD can make a big difference but other wise from a performance standpoint I feel that these two bad boys of the roads were close competitors and both totally freaking awesome cars. I also feel that there battle is very similar to the battle between the EVO VIII and WRX STi. I feel that when toyota released the MkIV supra, Nissan wanted to one up them by building the next skyline to be close but a tad better in the performance department with the AWD. But of course thats all just my opinion.:ybrick:

I'm partial to the R33s but the R34s are nice but look a bit like a quick refrigerator and weigh a bit much to be nimble on a road course. The Supra is simply pure sex on wheels and still doesn't look dated and it's run in the US ended 13 years ago.

Also the Supra TT was one of the easiest to free up existing HP from;I saw a dyno that the Supra was putting down 285whp and with just a simple intake,turbo back exhaust and a manual boost controller pumping the turbos up a few PSI and laid down 440whp so you got a 160ish WHP bump for about a $1000 in parts.

:iagree: There's a member, who always says the Land Cruiser and the 2UZ 4.7 V8 is the most over engineered Toyota engine ever. I would say the 2JZ-GTE is. It has one of the strongest bottom ends out there and a lot people got huge HP increases without any changes on the internals and just strictly bolt-ons.

The Supra is how Toyota needs to go back to building their vehicles.

The same can also be said for the rb26 as well. Point is that most forced induction motors respond very well with just bolt on parts. Plus if go to youtube you can see lots of vids of these cars putting anywhere from 400 to 1000 plus whp. Sadly though I do see why the supra is more popular over in the usa as the supra was sold here and parts are way more easier to find compared to the skyline.rhd is no prob for me as the only real difference is the blinker and windshield wiper controls are changed. :violin:

Nearly 700whp is reasonable from the stock bottomend but a more sedate (ha!) 600whp is downright reliable;just gotta be careful with those Getrag 6 speeds as they cost almost $1000 a speed for a new one.

Only about 7000 turbo Supras were imported in 5 years so they are still a rare car and I'd love to own one eventually but I don't think they are getting cheaper for a decently loved example.

I did see a brand new red '93 6 speed production #0003 (7 miles and still had the plastic on the seats) for sale on ebay last year asking $60k and if I had lotto money I would've snapped it up.

I do agree that the Skyline is better, and also because it has been along with the Defender my favorite car, RHD doesnt mean the blinkers and wipers are flipped, they are in the same spot, only the wheel moves, if it does on the skyline then that is vehicle specific. The problem with both of these is that limited production around the world and the "Fast and Furious" movies made everyone want both of these cars, and that drove the already high prices up further.

I like the Skyline but very hard to obtain and certify in the US so just not a realistic car for us americans to own but in a perfect world I'd still own an R33 in black....please.:driving:

Don't know if there were any other importers outside of Motorex. The conversion fees were between $16-25k. I've heard Motorex had the market locked down on importing them and they knew which cars they brought in. They would raise flags on Skylines that weren't imported by them, like those brought in by military personnel stationed overseas about those Skylines not be street legal, etc. However, Motorex no longer imports Skylines.

One of my high school friend's buddy had a R32 imported. He himself had a true JDM RHD ITR.

Its all Skyline for me. I love the look of the Supra but they always have traction issues. Ive seen so many 700-1000whp Supras running 10's because they cant hook up even on the track with some good slicks. AWD is the way to go. 500whp in a Skyline can trap 10's.

I also may be biased to AWD since I own a 93 Talon TSi running 30psi making 330whp to all 4 wheels.

There was one company doing it but they got shut down for some shady stuff. They where in all the huge import magazines and they where jacking people for work they where doing and cars they where selling. But that was a few years back, its probably not the company you are talking about.

I HOPE not. if so I'll go RAMBO on them. lol:AK47::gun5: they seem pretty good My friend bought some real true JDM bumpers for his Z about a year ago and he said they were great they even sent him translated instructions as well. that sux and I also remember reading on autoblog that the US government took some skylines and killed them as they were fakes or illegally imported.

Yea at the time they claimed to be the only true company to import the skylines. So it was kind of a big thing when I heard they where shut down. Im sure it was over 3 years ago so its probably not the same place.
