99 limited build , from good to bad

i was looking for a t4r for about 5 months , finally found 1 on ebay couple states away . i lost the bid but the seller contacted me a few days later and told me its available . wanted 8400 .
it was a silver 99 limited with the elocker that looked to be in mint condition with 100,000 k . in the pics the trunk looked great so 1 day later i was on a plane to western PA on the edge of ohio . the truck was clean just not as clean as he said .
noticed the truck had some rust on the read diff and usual places but had a fresh coating of under coating which should have told me to walk away . ended up getting it for 7000 . drove it 10 hours home .

wanted to lift it so i called toytec and this came a few days later

well started to install the lift kit and thats when it started to get bad . i put jack stands under the rear of the frame and when i let the truck down i heard a crunching noise . ends up the the previous dirtbag owner put epoxy over a rotted frame and that was why he had a fresh coat of undercoat on the frame .
has to be fixed so out came the torches and welder and it got repaired

then finally started installing the lift the rust stared bleeding through the undercoat . bought some por15 to paint over it but was not happy with it so the rear diiff and all suspension parts , skid plates . came out and was sent out to be sand blasted . then coated with pro 15

I found myself in a similar situation with a 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport double cab speedway blue 4x4 that I picked up last November 2011. I am in OK and it was in AL. I asked all the right questions and got all the right pics, including the underside of the truck. It was a beautiful truck and looked great. Drove 10 hours each way to pick it up. Got it home and much like you it went from good to bad to worse and I now own a 1999 4Runner. The truck was originally from IL and the 2nd owner in AL only had it a couple months as he is trying to start a business basically flipping Tacomas. Well the underside of the truck had been undercoated. I thought that was a great since it appeared to not have any rust issues. Little did I know it was a rust bucket under all of that undercoating. Every project turned into a rust nightmare. I cut my loses and sold it after only owning it a little over a year. I now am the proud owner of a rust free 1999 4Runner limited.

I feel your pain with the rust. I hope it is not as bad as it appears.

That's a nice looking rig, too bad you're having so many problems with rust. I wonder why that is. Did it come from a town on the ocean? It's strange to see that kind of decay, at least where I'm from.

It sucked at first but it's all repaired now so , when you live in the northeast just something you have to deal with.

Thought about selling it but I didn't want to jerk someone like I got it and clean runners are hard to come by around here . The truck really is super clean , plus it gave me a nice winter project !

Good job with the rust repair, it seems like that area is where a lot of T4Rs have problems. The rear axle sure looks nice now!

Thanks for all the input on helping me with my rust issues! Your rig looks great now man and we have the same lift! What's the next mod you plan to do?

just finished 1'' body lift today . next is 33 tires , alignment and then weld on the sliders .
