Yea, i just bought my 1st runner, a black 2000 sr5 4x4 3 weeks ago with 166k for 3g. I just replaced the t. belt/w.p. and related parts. Now for my 1st upgrade i just bought tundra calibers, pads and brembo rotors. I'm hooked on reading all the 3rd gen build threads for the mods. After seeing your truck with the running boards removed i think thats my next step, thanks for the pics. Nice runner! Sorry, but i had to crop my pic to get it to load.

Nice. Ya removing the running boards does give it a different look. 3 grand is ridiculously low for that truck. Nice find.

So I installed my non-TRD Tundra front set up today. 4x2 coils with OEM Tokicos with around 90k on them. Heres my verdict: The difference in ride is night and day. Its amazing to actually feel the suspension articulating. The PP Coils with KYB shocks are just a really stif set up. So overall I really like the ride, though the steering wheel tends to wander easier. This may be partly improved by an alignment. But the problem is that these droped my front end back down closer to stock. I was expecting about the same ride height as the PP coils, around 1.5-2". Instead they dropped me between 1-1.25". I could put daystars on it to get it up another 1.25", but just cant justify a spacer lift. So Ill be getting a TRD set up soon. Till then I guess Ill just enjoy the Cadillac ride and ridiculous stance with the lc coils in the back

Tundra TRD set up installed.
So I got my TRD Tundras installed today. I have some interesting info, so keep reading.
The coils I got were not the yellow/yellow and yellow/blue codes that are listed in the the tutorial page. They are coded yellow/red and blue/red. However, they came off of a 2006 TRD Tundra 4x4 Access cab. You can look at the link here. http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/pts/2905914580.html The buyer confirmed to me that the truck was a 4x4, TRD. As the link says they came with the Toyota bilsteins that come on the TRD edition. So my consensus is that maybe the access cab uses the coils I have, while the full four door TRD uses the yellow/yellow yellow/blue coils. Or that possibly they changed the color codes in 06?
So if you read my previous posts basically in the last week Ive had three set ups in the front. (1) PP coils with KYB shock (2) 4x2 Tundra coils with Tokico shocks (3) TRD coils with Bilsteins. The 4x2 Tundra set up brought me back down to stock height from the Performance Products coils. And now these TRD coils brought me back up 2 inches. Basically the exact same height that it originally sat at with the PP coils.
From Fender to center of hub:
-Non-TRD coils with OEM Tokicos
Driver and passenger sides - 20.5"
-TRD coils with non-adjustable Bilsteins (also the same height as PP coils with KYB shocks)
Driver and passenger sides - 22.5"
The 4x2 non-TRD set up rode really soft, like a Cadillac. It was actually a nice change. The TRD set up rides surprisingly similar to my PP coils with KYB shocks, though maybe just a tad more soft. Ride feels very solid and controlled. Not too stiff and not too soft. Overall very good.
So my conclusions are the following:
-If you want a really nice, soft ride, you could go with a 4x2 Tundra set up with OEM Tokicos, and then just add a spacer if you want some lift. And hey, Ill be selling mine soon! So let me know if youre interested
-The yellow/red and blue/red coils from a Tundra seem identical to the yellow/yellow and blue/yellow set up and will give a 2" lift from stock. They came with Bilsteins from of a 4x4 TRD and ride excellent.
-The TRD set up actually rides really similar to the Performance Products coils with KYB shocks, which I will also be selling if you are interested. This set up also gives 2" of lift from stock.
No pictures as it just looks the same as I did a week ago.

Where in WYO? Oh wait, you have a #2 County plate, so somewhere in the Cheyenne area... nice!
Just bought one myself with some surface rust in OH. 1998 SR5 4WD.
How did you get the dealer to give you replacement shocks? Did you have to receive a piece of paper first from Toyota? Or can you just walk into a dealer and see if they've been done? If they haven't, can they do it?

Maybe they changed the colors. Mine are the y/y y/b and they came from an 04 TRD Access cab...who knows. Glad yo finally got a setup you like. I can't wait for my wedding to be over next week so I can install my lift!

The recall wasnt on shocks, it was on the rear coils. I just called them and told them I had a 98 with the original coils. The recall info is on the first page of this thread. You should be able to get it

I'm from Northwest WY, near Yellowstone... Been wanting a 4Runner forever, especially a 3rd generation. I'm a college student myself...
ah, shocks, right. I'm a bit of a newbie, so I get some parts mixed up... I need new shocks on my Chevy Lumina, which currently has nearly 330,000 miles on it...

Oh I graduated last year. My degree is in cellular molecular biology. I love that area. Id love to live around jackson hole. but its so expensive. I visited Yellowstone two summers back. Its amazing.

So here is my stance after the new suspension. As the previous page says I got as set of TRD Tundra coils with bilsteins for the front, though they are coded yellow/red and blue/red rather than yellow/yellow and yellow/blue. Theyve been on for 4 days now.
The lc coils have settled a bit as several of you mentioned they would. Though this was after running between 400-600lbs in the back for the past two weeks. And in these pictures there's still 360 lbs in the back. With that gone it would probably raise the back a good 1/2 inch.
I like the rake as it is now, and after driving it for the past few weeks I can say I really like the ride too. The rear feels a bit softer that the front. I still wish the front was a tad softer. But if feels really solid and controlled. Overall a great ride. Its slightly less stif than my previous set up with the pp coils and kyb shocks in the front and rear. Not a huge difference honestly. My conclusion is that the pp coils are actually really nice, and the kyb shocks are great quality, just a bit stiff with no extra weight.

Do I have a tranny cooler installed?
So today I ran seafoam through my pvc valve, and changed my oil. I was gonna install my diff drop but kinda ran out of time. But when I was under the truck looking at things I noticed something I hadnt noticed before.
Take a look at the picture . . .
Sorry about my artwork. You cant really tell from the picture, but my number 1 and 2 are to show that those are two completely seperate units. I didnt look at where all the lines were running, but I know for a fact that the unit on the engine side contains my radiator. Thing is, all of the tranny coolers Ive seen on this site are significantly smaller than the radiator. But the unit labeled 1 in the front is almost the same size as the radiator. Theyre seperated by about a 1.5" gap.
So are both of those just part of my radiator, or do I have a tranny cooler that I never knew about?
