Anyone elso running this Denso Radiator?
I ordered this two days ago. Its a little more pricey, but I trust Denso, and with this I feel like I could go another 150k without worring about the tranny cooler OR radiator. Installing a tranny cooler wouldnt change the fact that my radiator has 186k on it.
Have any of you installed this radiator? Its part way down the page

Did a few things to the truck today.
No more chrome! Well, almost no more. I still have the rear bumper strip. But I got the two rear side bumper panels in color matched black installed today. Many thanks to Bandit Runner who sold them to me at a good price.

Also repainted the skid plate. The previous paint I used was Rust Oleum Steel Metalic. This time I used Rust Oleum Aluminum. These paints are absolutly amazing. They nearly match the durability of a urethane paint from a HVLP gun. 8 months later and after rocks, dirt, branches, winter salt and everything else the plate looked identical to when I painted it. Ive used several different paint brands for differnt applications and nothing matches Rust Oleum. Dupli color, IMHO, is absolute garbage compared to Rust Oleum.
I repainted with the aluminum because the steel had more of a specled two tone look. This aluminum paint looks very clean, like a fine sanded sheet of aluminum.

So I have to say that the exterior look of your runner is one of my favorites on here. It is the right blend of stock and mods, and the color matching is the best part, it will be sweet to see it once you finish the color match. Next time I make the trip to Madison to visit my family, we will have to go for a little wheelin.

Hey thanks for the compliment man! At this point its getting close to being fully color matched. I color matched the rear bumper holder and front grille myself, but Im gonna have them professionally painted pretty soon, along with my fender flares and front valance.
Are you originally from Madison?

Glad the bumper pieces worked out for you. Truck is looking great. Now you just need to get that center portion of the bumper in black.

Did you see the link for the light grommets on my build thread? I'm not sure what size you need, but the site has tons of different sizes...you should be able to find something that will work. Even if you have to slightly modify it. Trucks looking good by the way.

Well, I Finally got around to putting in my new radiator today, after buying it about two months ago. I went with Denso, which is what came stock on our 3rd gens, or at least its what was on mine. It was a bit more than the Koyo and other brands, but I trust the name. I had 187600 on it, and not a single issue. It still looks really clean inside. Hoses are perfect. That must just be because it came from the mild Colorado climate.
No more fear of the pink milkshake, and ready for the next 187600 miles!

Im considering painting the wheels black. I would do the entire wheel, not just the center caps. But Im just afraid to do it because once theyre sanded its a done deal. And theyre in great shape as they are, so I just cant make my mind up

Gas Mileage Up
So I mentioned some time ago that back in December I got new tires (265 75s to replace my 265 70s) and also did an oil and filter change, and then saw my gas mileage go down drasticly. I always use Mobile One high mileage synthetic and Toyota OEM filters for my oil changes. I went from averaging around 18mpg to averaging around 15. Then a few months ago I ran half a can of Seafoam through my PVC valve, and added the other half to my tank, and then did another oil and filter change. Since then my mileage has literally gone back up to 18 + average, which I think is pretty good since I still have slightly bigger and heavier 6 ply tires.
So I still dont know what brought on the immediate drop in gas mileage back in December. Maybe you guys have some ideas. Im wondering if it had something to do with the oil filter. I dont know if that is plausable? Either way, its back up, and I would definately reccommend Seafoam to anyone with higher miles.

Its amazing what only two winters in Wisconsin did to my rear axel. I mean sure it had some rust from its life in Colorado, but it just took off over the past two years.
I purchased some rust converter a while back, and so far after applying it yesterday and today im really impressed with it. It dries to a very hard black finish by converting and encapsulates the rust, and also acts as a ready primer.
Before:
And then after several hours of hand sanding, grinding with an abrasive pad, and scraping with a wire brush, followed by a few good rinses, and then two layers of rust converter.
Next step will be lightly sanding and then applying an undercarriage protective coating. And then its on to that nasty tail pipe!

I'm actually about to cover the entire underside of my rig with rust converter... so I'm glad to see some pictures of what to expect of what it turns out like... Was thinking it would be more black, but looks more brownish... ah, well I'll be painting it with chassis paint anyhow...
If you don't mind my asking, what rust converter did you use?

It does turn black for the most part. The brown you see are patches of rust as I took the picture right after applying the two coats. As it continues to react it will darken more. But Im going to use an undercarraige coating as well. This is just the inital step.
I used this stuff made by Valspar. Its kinda pricey, but works great. The finish is really really hard. I almost got the VHT as well, but I wanted a solution that I could brush on as it allows me to be more precise, and really get into those small areas without overspraying everywhere.

Valspar is a great brand as well... Thanks for the info... looking forward to covering my chassis in this stuff, will give me peace of mind about the rust...

Heres the black you were talking about. I was gonna use valspar for the undercarriage coating, but I found the same gloss black protective enamel from Rust Oleum, and Ive always had good results with Rust Oleum products. This is after brushing on two layers of rust converter and one layer of the gloss black enamel. Ill do two more layers of enamel to finish.
