Haven't checked in here, in a while.... those tail lights do look pretty sweet! I love the look of the 01 -02 OEM's though... really pop! My truck, is supposed to reflect an "OEM TRD 4Runner"... (If they ever did one...) so I took all my favorite OEM pieces, and added them to mine... Another reason why I did the Satoshi.... looks OEM... but different.

Ya I like the idea of a "personalized" TRD looking 3rd gen as well. Thats kinda what Im going for as well. My current wheels are from a TRD Tacoma. Im thinking of eventually going to a brand new set of 99 coils with bilsteins all around, and a 1" body lift to get a better ride quality than my current Tundra TRDs and rear 890s, yet still maintain a more sporty than stock look. (Ive been doing a lot less hauling lately so I dont have quite the need for the lift) And then pair that with 265 75 AT tires (currently have 265 75 HTs) and a set of SCS F5s in gloss black.

I do think Im gonna get the tail lights I posted. I like the 99+ OEM tails as well. Actually the ones I posted the picture of come in red as well, and I may go with those. Still undecided. I HATE the idea of spending money on something and then seeing the outcome and not being sold on it.

Im also thinking of painting the emblem either chrome, silver metalic, or black. And I dont know how much interest there would be, but I have also considered fabing up a few more emblems just like mine to sell. Problem is for the amount of time it takes me, people might not want to pay what I would ask

Honestly man... if you want a better ride, and not spend a ton of money... keep your Tundra setup, get some 8 wrap LC coils, couple that with a good shock (I'm running some Skyjacker's.. but they are a little too short).

I'm not sure what else you've done with your suspension components, but I bought Poly urethane stabilizer link bushings, for the front and the rear. Also did the Stabilizer bar bushings.... and my truck rides GREAT!

I have less body roll than I did at stock height, and the suspension I have, soaks up the bumps nicely. (unlike my 05 Taco... Lol).

The above recommendations, would cost you less than a couple of hundred bucks, and your truck would still be lifted. (a plus in my books ) I find these trucks look best lifted with a nice set of slightly offset larger tires.

Ya I ran 7 wraps with LC shocks for like 6 months. They gave me 4.5" lift which was too much, and rode pretty similar to my current 890s. Still have the lc shocks in the back. I also have the energy suspension poly bushings on my sway bars.

I got it from truckgeardirect.com. But its rusting now after only two years. Cheap powder coat job

I like it. Its better than when I had 7 wraps. Its still stiff to me, but Ive gotten used to it. I would say the front end with the tundra set up is slightly stiffer than the back

Didnt want to start a thread for this question, so Ill just ask here.

Im looking at part #43501c (hub assembly) at the top of the page on the link. You can click on more info and see the diagram. My question is if the hub assembly comes with all the internal parts for $134 (bearing, seal, etc.) or if its just an empty hub? I honestly cant tell from the info.

I can't speak for that part in particular.... but I know that when I had my rear bearing done recently, the shop had ordered a complete replacement axle, just in case mine was bent or damaged.

When we looked at the new axle assembly, it came with the hub and bearing in a complete assembly, and also a seal..... May have even come with other parts too....

Its been a long time since Ive updated my thread, so I figured Id show the few things Ive done recently.

Quick story . . . I was riding my motorcycle with a friend on Friday night in Kettle Moraine State Forest here in WI, and without getting into the details, he ended up wrecking his bike and putting it down a pretty steap hill. The bike caught a few trees, but thankfully my friend came out with nothing more than bruises and a bit of shock. It was just after dark, and there was no way the two of us were getting the bike up that hill, so we decided I would ride home and get my 4runner, then drive back and pick him up, then deal with the bike the next morning. So I rushed home, grabbed Jitters, and started driving back to pick him up. After about 20 miles my battery light came on, and I quickly realized my alternator had just failed. It had been going bad for a while, but I took it to a mechanic last week and his consensus was to not worry about it for now. Great advice dude. Thankfully its not January! So, I drove down the back roads for a few more miles before the 4runner finally died about 5 miles from my friend. So there we were, both stranded at night in the middle of the wooded nowhere. Needless to say it was a late night.

With that in mind, obviously I just replaced the alternator.

Also recently installed my Kenwood KDC-BT955HD head unit to unlock the power from the Infinity Reference speakers I installed a few months ago. The sony xplode didnt provide enough power for the speakers. Its a completely different monster with the new head unit.

I also painted my Tacoma wheels and custom Toyota emblem with Rust Oleum semi-gloss black. The wheels look ten time better than they did silver, imo.

And here's a shot of my bike for good measure. For anyone who's ever been on an SV, you know that they arent fast like a liter bike, but theyre really revy and quick off the line. One of the best bikes out there for the fun factor

Electrical issue

Figured I would post this in my thread to avoid starting a new one. I installed my new speakers and stereo several months ago, and now all of the sudden Im having a wierd issue with them. While the stereo is on the passenger side speakers will suddenly go out and the only noise coming from them is a ticking/humming sound. And the sound is consistant with my engine RPMs. So, when Im parked the ticking is less frequent, and then when I take off and the rps increase, the ticking increases in frequency as well. During this time the driver side speakers continue to work with no issues. And then, without any reason the ticking will stop and the speakers will start working again.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Something with a ground wire maybe? While I did install the speakers and stereo myself, I know relatively little about electronics

I would take everything apart that connects the stereo and spray contact cleaner all over the connections and make sure it's all plugged in tight. As a matter of fact, that's what I just did the other weekend since my speakers kept popping on and off on me. So far it's worked great. The interference noise you are getting does sound like a ground issue. Try cleaning the connections first and then see if the noise is still there.

A few more little things to update.

I saw COB do this a while back and thought it was a great idea. Painted my faded window trim for all 5 windows along with the front widow cowel, using Dupli Color Trim paint. Im really not a fan of Dupli Color products. From my experience they arent nearly as durable nor do they apply as smoothly as Rust Oleum products. However . . . I do like this trim paint for these applications.

No before pictures. The trim pieces were weather just like they all are after time, with shades of blush-grey showing through. Now they look brand new again!

ive been trying to touch up my chipped windshield wipers and make some improvements to the trim just like THIS!! however, i have had a hell of a time trying to take off the windshield wiper...

when i crank that 10mm or 12mm nut or whatever it is, it seems like its so stuck on there, its moving both windshield wipers and i'm afraid I'm going to brake something if i try to put any more force to the nut holding the wiper on...

am i just being a wimp... should i just turn until it lets go or should i put some penetrating fluid on it to make it easier...

i dont think my wipers have ever been taken off... the car is a 99' 4runner

Hm, I dont remember how hard it was to get them off as its been awhile now. But yeah I would just let penetrating oil soak in for a few days. Also, the trim spots that sit below the windows have since began to peel. If you do those I would recommend using an adhesive promoter. Or at least a primer. And I would use rust oleum or SEM paint instead of dupli color. The paint on the front trim piece has held well, as its a soft plastic which the trip paint binds with quite well

Last week I brought it in to the Toyota service center and got new rear coils and cones put on due to the factory recall on the original springs. Nice freebie.



where did you get the info for the recall? i have a 99 limited and if i can get some free coils that would be awesome. especially iof there still doing it when it has a bunch of miles
