ONE THING THAT REALLY BUGS ME is that when I hit a speed bump going 10 MPH (there are 3 of them within 150ft from my place...) I REALLY feel them. On initial impact (hitting the bump) it feels nice, but when I come over the other end it feels like my suspension is SLAMMING back down. I consulted with ICON about this and they recommended the 700lb springs as the cure, saying I had too much preload on the coilover with the added weight. Well with 1" of preload on the 700lb springs it's the same jarring feeling over the speed bumps. I am going to look into ways to mount my gopro under there and try to figure out what's going on. It doesn't feel right.

has your front always done that or is it a new development? It sounds like you need more rebound dampening. Icon is usually pretty good about setting up their shocks but it might be worth looking at. Just a thought :noidea:

It has done this since I installed the Icons.

Rebound dampening... I'll have to look into it.

Ordered the necessary items to rebuild my coilovers and shocks from Wheelers Offroad. My plan was to send them to Icon and have CDC valves retrofitted, but I simply cannot afford that.

Found a local shop that will rebuild them for less than 1/2 the price of Icon, and I can drop them off in the morning, and pick them up later that same day.

I hope that this will improve some of the ride quality I expected from the Icons.

Does the suspension's response to the speed bumps seem normal...?

Here's the video I made to try and see if there was anything OBVIOUSLY wrong with the suspension. I was trying to stay as close to 10mph as possible when I hit the series of three speed bumps. The driver side seems to cycle more than the passenger, I think. It just looks ROUGH to me and the change in sound is drastic, to my ear. I don't know. Input appreciated!! I am aware that I am missing my rear bumpstop on the passenger side LCA. I'll address that some day (there are NO threads inside of that hole.. Not sure how to remedy that.

Alex, I didnt see anything obvious, but the cycling happens pretty quick. If you're hearing clunking, I'd suspect a worn joint/bushing somewhere or a spring not seated properly. if its clunking, I'd probably take it in and have someone look it over for a few bucks.

If the springs are the same and there is more travel in one side, then perhaps the shocks are ready for rebuild?

Pics look fanastic form your last trip.

Hey man, there is definitely a noticeable difference in the cycling and damping of the driver to passenger side CO. The sounds that i am hearing and the rapid cycling i would attest to a low or no charge.

I would call Icon and see what the nitrogen charge is supposed to be and then find someone that can check it. Without the proper charge you get extra noise as the piston cycles along with a more rapid cycle of the suspension.

Off topic, i havent been able to do "mentions" lately either. I thought it was just me.

Thanks for your input, Micah. With the price Auburn Offroad is charging for the rebuild, I'll use that as my first step. If it's still acting up I'll pay for a diagnosis from a professional. EVERYTHING up front is about a year old, and genuine Toyota parts... So I hope it's nothing up there.

That was probably the last pretty trip like that this year =(. All grey skies and rain/snow from here on out, but we should still try and get out there.

Ya that's broken, better give it to me.
:cowboy:
Just to be clear, is it your front coilovers that your having the issues with? Or the rear shocks?
It's the front. I parked my front tires on the far side of the bump and floored it to isolate the rear... Smooth as a babies butt =p

Thanks, Nate. After Rockdawg brought up the dampening, that's kinda where my head went too. I'll get them rebuilt in the next couple weeks. Hopefully next week.

Thanks a lot guys.

What's AFC charging for the rebuild? Mine I got used and not sure when they'll go.

Sometimes I take my car to minake or something like that just so it can get racked easy and I can look at it with someone. Its generally free or less than 50.

They're the IPF 968's which have a 6.5" diameter and a 3" depth. Including the mount they're 7" tall.

Honestly, with how bright my headlights are I can hardly even tell when they're on. SLIGHT change of color to the overall output, but that's all.

Probably my favorite T4R on this site. Love your ride and your pictures.

Is there room to fit a slightly bigger light than the 968s? I just ordered my CBI hybrid front bumper and was looking at putting some LED lights in the holes, but wasn't sure they'd fit.

There's a tiny bit more room, but I think they'd look a bit corny. I'll take a picture tomorrow and PM it to you.

5 stars. Too much good useful info on here for this thread not to be 5 stars.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Went out hunting in Eastern Oregon with my father and my brother in-law.

9 hour drive there on Friday, and 7ish back today. We had two tags, two days, and took two respectably sized mule deer (not sure how the forum feels about dead things, so I'll hold off on those pictures...) . A sucessful weeked, I'd say. Drank beer, took pictures, shot stuff, fished, it was just all good.

Here's one picture before bed.

Wanted to get another couple photos up this morning... Since I have STILL been too lazy to take my camera in to be repaired, only about 1/100 of my photos was able to be salvaged. Probably only have a couple left =(

Moon coming up over far side of Clark Canyon/Waldron Mountain to the South. The mighty John Day River providing a second look.

Post the dead animal pics please.

Brother in-law with his 3x4 (not including pretty decent eye guards) opening morning... BIG deer. Probably 4-5 years old. Taken with a broadside shot at about 350yds flat, cross canyon using a 7mm

Father with his 4x4 (not including 3 little eye guards on each side...) on Sunday morning. Much smaller bodied deer, probably 3 years old. Taken with a frontal shot at about 150yds uphill using a .257 Weatherby Magnum
