Correct, they valve them for a STOCK 4Runner or a STOCK Tacoma. Add a few hundred pounds of bumpers, skids, overweight lady friends, etc and they're no longer, "perfect".

You'll still be left with 10 settings, regardless of which springs you use. The valving will just decide how many of those are softer settings, and how many are harder.

When valving the shocks they account for added weight, just like toyota does when they valve the shocks. So some added weight is not a huge issue. THey expect you to add cargo, heavy lady friends.

Not understanding where your going with this ?

Maybe because my reply was not to you, he was saying after you add weight that the valving is no longer perfect. I was saying they expect you to add weight. I talked with Icon when doing my brothers lift and they said that the coils and shocks where valved for extra weight because they expect you to add passengers, cargo and other goodies.

Heads and Timing Belt (Part 3)

Well, I got it all taken apart this evening. LOTS of lessons learned, and though it took many, many hours I am happy I did it. Saved a lot of cash, and gained a LOT of knowledge.

This next picture is going to be larger so that it'll hopefully show the issue better... Just like in the Youtube video LittleCaesar posted. Going to clean up both the heads really well tomorrow and take some better pictures.

Looks like cracks in more then one spot. Keep your fingers crossed that your block isn't warped or cracked either.

I'd be shocked. My engine has never been over 205ish degrees. But, we will be checking it to be sure.

But your head has cracks in it!

Best check it before surfacing the heads. Just in case. You know ? Let's hope everything is good.

May I ask, exactly what happened? I tried to back track on previous pages but there's just darn to much to read lol sorry

It does look cracked [emoji51]

Ha, I didn't realize that I didn't state in my post w/ picture that it's cracked. Yes, the 4th cylinder has what appears to be multiple cracks in the head. Tomorrow I'm going to clean it much more thoroughly and get a better look. That one crack is quite obvious, however.

As for what happened? I'm not really sure. As I said, it has never even come close to over heating. Perhaps 180,000 miles of forced induction took a toll on it? Who knows.

However, after replacing both heads I'll be stoked to get another 180,000 miles out of it, and continue not having a car payment.

Symptoms started about a year ago. First start of the day it would run funny, kinda stumble on itself, for a few SECONDS, then run perfectly fine afterward. 3 or 4 months after that it started eating a little coolant. Maybe 1/4 gallon everyone few thousand miles. VERY gradually got worse until about a month ago when it started consistently misfiring under load, and putting some white smoke out of the exhaust on a cold start.

It passed all diagnosis until the coolant system pressure test. Left it on overnight and cylinder 4 filled with coolant.

Just got it all wrapped up! Pulled it out of the garage and filled the coolant up. First stop? Well, the gas station of course! The whole way there I had the biggest grin on my face. Felt like a little kid!

Anyway, huge thanks to LittleCaesar for the Youtube link that gave me the courage to tackle it myself.

I'll upload some pictures and maybe a video tomorrow!

Here's one from yesterday when my buddy came over with his fancy tools to torque the head bolts.
