Oh, and you can also see that I replaced my Thule crossbars with the Smittybilt Defender mounts. I am happier having it attached at 8 points now vs 4, and it also dropped it a couple inches closer to the roof of the 4Runner.

The only downside I see is how difficult it is to reach the bolts on the underside of the tent... I am not a huge dude, but it took a LONG time for my to contort my hands to get the tent bolted to the mounts.

Is there a link or a store local that I can get these mounts? Getting my tent soon and would like the mounts be here before hand. Thanks

I got mine on Amazon actually.... Looks like the price has gone up about $10 and is no longer eligible for Prime shipping. That's a deal breaker for me.

If I remember correctly you're in Tacoma? If so, 4 Wheel Parts should be able to order them for you without any issues. Make sure you get the kit with 8 mounts though, and not 6. Some folks have had issues with the 6 mount kit.

Another tip if you have a few extra dollars laying around... It's soooo difficult to get all the washers/lock washers/nuts lined up due to how short the bolts are and how little room there is to work with... If I ever take mine off I will replace the bolts with something about 1/8" longer, and replace the lock washers and nuts with those nuts that have the nylon lock layer thing. That would have made life so much easier the first (and second) time around.

Overall the mounts are great and I have really been pleased with how sturdy they are. Literally no sound from the tent wiggling around and they do not move/bend/flex at all when my wife's moving around up there. Not sure if they do or not when we're both inside, but I don't FEEL them moving. Feels solid.

Also, some guys from Tacomaworld are heading up to Gallagher Lake on the 6th... Poke your head into the Meet thread over there and come out.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I was seriously looking at buying a rack and then mounting the tent on it, but I might just go with the same as you for now.

I'm on that list for 6-7th for camping. That's what I'm getting ready for.

I'm down for camping this summertime!
 
Been browsing this thread for awhile now, but just went through every page today!!! Such a fan of this build... Best one I have seen yet!

Just picked up a 97 green SR5 that needs some love and restoration. It will never be even close to yours in terms of cleanliness, but I hope to model mine somewhat like yours (plus a turbo) and use it like you do!

I saw in Connors thread that you are thinking of going with the Superflex with the CBI bumper. What is your hub to fender measurement with the 861's? I am putting on my CBI tonight and have the superflex, but also have the 861's on hand. I can send you a pic if I stikc with the superflex.
 
Gallagher Head Lake 6 June 2015

Continued meeting my goal of camping/getting out every weekend this summer.

Went up to Gallagher Head Lake this weekend with a group of guys from Tacomaworld. One of them broke an UBJ at the top of the trail- miles from town, and at about 6200'... Made for a fun recovery, and explains my lack of photos.

Pretty upset about today. I went to winch a stock tacoma up a hill on our way out and found that my winch hook was not in it's special spot (the pouch behind the driver's seat)... Makes me think one of the fellas at Firestone may have had some sticky fingers as NO ONE has been in my 4Runner for a longgggg time other than my wife and I. Had to hammer the shackle pin through the end of the winch line. Worked, but I am not happy. Maybe time for a Factor 55.
