About to pull the trigger on a 2015 T4R... need some insight

- HOOD SCOOP - Okay... I'll throw a bone to just looks

I'm not a big one for spending additional money on cars, unless (1) I use something all the time and dislike it or the design, (2) I'm irritated by something, or (3) experience a definitive, repetitive need.

Since I've purchased, I've also needed/added some other items... but I've still spent less than a TRD Pro would have cost me:
- NFAB nerf bars (for wife & kids)
- Gobi Stealth rack & ladder
- Anti-Dark under hood lighting
- ConsoleVault
- Toyota all-weather mat for slide out tray
- PrecisionLED indoor/outdoor lighting
- TRD Pro shifter with red stitching

I'll evaluate tires/wheels once mine wear out and/or my families off-road needs expand beyond what they currently are. But next up is (1) relocating the rear diff breather to under the hood, and (2) changing exhaust pipe from rear to side of SUV (dislike both factory designs and both are an improvement over original design).

One thing I wish I had read about when I bought my 14TEP was some member's abilities to negotiate a credit for factory tires before taking possession. If I would have heard about that beforehand... I would have made that a deal-breaker to closing and had AutoNation Toyota install a different tire of my choice - that I deliver.

Thank you and thanks everyone for posting. I noticed a lot of people favored the TE over the pro but for me I didn't realize that there isn't much difference besides badging and some accessories. I guess I got on the hype bandwagon and almost fell victim to it.

Now its just time to source some trucks. I see a few TEs online but I can't seem to find out if they have KDSS or not. The guy wants to bump up the purchase date on the STI so now its time to find and possibly throw a deposit down to hold one I can't live without.


Hopefully I can get the stealership to add extra goodies when I purchase the vehicle ^______^
 
The big reason I stayed away from the pro is cause it has auto lights and no sunroof. Although the former may be an easy delete... the latter would be a PITA. Both are great looking trucks.

Don't let KDSS make or break your purchase. If you find a Trail you like then get it. As for dealer add ons... don't waste your money.

The trick when looking for KDSS optioned TEs will be to look for a $1500+ higher MSRP. The dealers typically don't list KDSS as an option online. That's how I found mine...

This is pretty much my current train of thought. This weekend I'm probably going to go around and look at the trails I did find. I'm not holding my breath though. I figure that if I can't find one I would have one built... but at the same time I think it would be easier to haggle price with one already optioned with KDSS.

I want to try and scam free TRD rims/rubber and a few features I want. 90% of the add ons suck so its only a couple things.

I'm going to be short a car if I do have one built though... in everyone's experience; do stealerships tend to help put you in a car while you wait if you buy a car or is that something that won't happen or you have to negotiate for?
 
Get the TE if you want the KDSS, plan on modifying the crap out of it for off road use.

Gete the TRDP if you are a professional photographer and your mods are to make your truck mroe photogenic and the exact shade of blackness of your wheels keeps you up at night:peep:

I went to Dale Mabry Elementary back in '93... I think. Lived not too far from there.

I work on the base as well... my truck is always parked in the lot by the bayshore gate. As for dealers steer clear of autonation and stadium unless you like to get raped. I bought my 11 from Wesley Chapel and my 15 from Sun Toyota. Sun seems to get the 4wd inventory around here and had the best price by Far. Wesley chapel has free lifetime warranty.... but their inventory sucks.

Toyota of Tampa Bay has a 2015 trail for 37,437 and if it has KDSS I want to hop on that. But I have to wait for dude to buy my STI :ballchain:


I saw another trail onlive for 36,XXX which I figured didnt have KDSS. So I may end up having one built for me.
 
Yeah its exclusive but it doesn't really offer more than a trail with a lift kit on it. I like how its good to go out of the box but I think picking up and slightly modding a trail or SR5 is where I'll get the bang for my buck
 
Honestly there really isn't a huge difference between the trd pro and trail. trd has a few appearance goodies, cai bilstein suspension and no kdss. the trd's suspension is probably slightly more capable, otherwise the 2 models drive the same. if you are looking to mod and offroad, a lightly used trail offers a much better value proposition.

This is my current stance right now. But I am now wondering if an SR5 with slight modification will compete with a trail w/some slight modification.

it will but you'll have to add a rear locker at your own expense. also a sr5 won't have the crawl control i believe.

don't know what your goals are with this vehicle. a stock sr5 is more than enough to get people over 99% of the terrain they will encounter. a trail makes sense for those who want to go the extra mile and is the best starting platform for an offroad project vehicle.
 
I am keeping this car forever. So I would like the option to have the extras. That and the price difference between a trail/SR5 isn't all that different. +/- 2K
