Accident

Sorry to see what happened to your truck. I hope everything works out well for you. In the end, at least you were not hurt. Vehicles can always be replaced.
Thanks for your support! This includes everyone who has posted wishing me well. I will let you know what becomes of my ordeal. Repair photos etc. As well as my battle with the insurance company.

Threats

Well it looks after sending a threatening letter to my insurance company with cc to my shop and my lawyer.
My insurance company called me saying there was a mistake made by someone. "we are going to use all OEM parts on the repair of your vehicle. Due to the age and mileage and condition, we have decided we will use OEM parts to repair your vehicle."

Shop has ripped down the truck, more damage than could be seen from outside.
My shop has rewritten the estimate and sent it back.
I'll get the ripped down pictures up shortly.

I know I'm not the only one, so just adding my "Oh that poor wonderful 4Runner!"
Since they are going to fix it for you, it will be fascinating to see the rebuild. And hey here's another way to look at it. Instead of being slapped together going down the assembly line, your's is being custom put back together with attention to everything to make sure it passes.
I can't wait to see your next round of pics!

They say if the Airbags had deployed in mine they would have totalled it.
I can't believe they are going to fix that Pilot.

My truck has under 17k miles on it, witch my estimator said they have to use all brand new parts and some OEM parts required. No used/salvage parts allowed to be used.
I would prefer used OEM Toyota panels over brand new aftermarket ones. Especially if you plan on keeping it for a while. Fit and quality is better with OEM parts.......... Just my $.02 Either way, that accident really sucks and I hope you end up making out ok when everything is said and done.

Sorry, missed your post about getting all OEM parts, that's great to hear. Hope all goes well with the repairs.

do the shop owners get annoyed w. you coming by and taking pics? or are they cool with it? how far is the repair shop from your place to go by there so often?

No, why would they? They are working for me, on what happens to be a fairly expensive vehicle. Unfortunately the repair is also very expensive 16K at current.
I have the right to see and know what they are doing and how far along in the repair process they are. They don

when i was doing car stereos i hated when people would watch over my shoulder thats why i was asking. and i know people who own body shops they usually will let the people look one or two times during the whole process but thats it so its cool they dont mind..some shops dont let people go back there for liability reasons and other reasons.

They are working on a $40K Vehicle. They don't let me back there. I take my vehicle somewhere else. Simple as that. They are making money off my repair. They dont want me around, so be it. I'll choose another shop. Most shops will see it my way. Again, they are working for me. I have the right to see what they are doing.

Again someone is watching you. maybe not standing over you, but I'm sure you have a superior that could fire you if you don't do your job.
At the end of it all, when the shop does a good job they will be glad to show their work and what it took to get it done.

yes if i dont do my job i could get fired...but my boss doesnt watch me or show up at my desk everyday to check on me. he trust that the job is getting done and getting done correctly.

Who said that I was interrupting them?

have you ever worked at a shop?

i said dont take offense..but i guess you did so im sorry...im just speaking from my pov and from my exp of working at shops. to some people it can also be taken as an insult that you dont trust them or their work. i cant speak for this shop you are going to at all but im simply giving my opinion

I own and run a successful service business. 12 years now.

No offense taken. Your just not getting the point. Its not a car stereo installation we are talking about. Its something WAY more valuable.
Any person in my position, not wanting to know whats going on with their personal investment of this type of value, is a FOOL.

Tmrw I go to get Ruffian's transmission fluid flushed and changed. I wish the shop would let me watch so that next time I could do it on my own, but I got the "Our insurance won't allow people in the back" speech.
At the price of $230, I watched Ruffian get a new windshield this morning. Other than never seeing the process before, I wanted to make sure he did the job right. (Like I know, but I do care about my $40,000 investment too.) Sure enough, as I am holding my credit card to pay, I looked through the windshield and I swear I can see waves in either the glass or the film. He says thats normal. Well the other windshield wasn't like that. And he had just cleaned it yet there are odd streaks running down the plane. So he walked over to look & sure enough those are not streaks but scratches! So I get another windshield next week & I won't have to pay until I am satisfied.

What does this have to do with his accident?

Any ETA's on the repair?

alright...thanks for the name calling? obviously you are taking offense because you are getting pi$$y and calling me a FOOL....for the record ive done a stereo in a dodge viper..a little more than a 40k car and that guy didnt check on it at all. i also did a $10,000 stereo so i think i know a little something about value.
i drive the same car as you [just got a better deal apparently] and before this i drove an Audi S4 brand new off the lot. within a month of having it some lady side swiped me and in to the body shop she went. i took it to someone i trusted i dropped it off and picked it up when they told me it was done. i didnt go to the shop once to 'know whats going on'. i think they know whats going on..its their job.
