Ordered this today!

I just did mines yesterday during lunch break.. took 5 minutes. I totally rigged it Just stripped the wire joined it with the 12v outlet cigarette plug and electro tape it.. No splicing.. Make sure you don't cross the power with ground. Its secure..

The light is not that bright. actually almost perfect even at night.. Color/gloss doesnt bother me.

Update.. its barely working.. It does not provide enough amprage to charge an iphone.

I may remove it. Also I leave my usb charger on and when I use my hamburger table it kinds breaks the charger or loosens it.

I read this whole thread i have a quick question if you use the smokers package to connect can you still hit the 120w button on the dash without damaging the usb power plug that i would be just installing.

I may not be interpreting the question correctly, so [MENTION=114846]Bluesky 07[/MENTION] may answer it better. I'm assuming the dash button you're talking about is the 120v for the power inverter, and the outlet is located in the center console? If so, then I would not see any issue as you're tapping power from the 12v in your ashtray which is not affected when the inverter is turned on. Someone else may want to chime in as I do not have the smoker package or the inverter.

yes that is what i was talking about i just thought about it and took a look it looks like they are on 2 separate circuits i just saw the 12v/120w on the cover of the cigarette and thought they were connected but it doesn't look like it. not completely sure as i don't have a wiring diagram

You should be good to tap the wires mentioned at the beginning of the thread.

After about a year of using this thing, I blew the little glass fuse. Anyone eliminate the inline fuse and splice the wires together, or should I just replace the fuse? Those things are a little pricey, compared to the USB unit itself!

I'm no electrical expert but as far as I know, this mod could only cause that if it was wired into an always-hot circuit as opposed to one controlled by the ignition.

So I currently have the constant power mod for my cigarette lighter and rear socket as well. Am I understanding that with this mod, and if I install this USB outlet, it could drain my battery?

What paint and finish [brand] did you use? I've been wanting to do this mod but didn't like the glossy look. Now you've inspired me to give it a try but I want the paint to match as close as possible to the factory buttons.

If it's only a phone plugged in no, unless your battery is at end of life, and that's it's own problem. If you're powering a cooler or fridge/freezer, they yes that's more likely. Duration being the factor.

I installed the Mictuning USB port around 4 months ago. I was never happy with the build quality (you certainly get what you pay for) and it is now falling apart. Here's my review: It's crap. I received the Bluesea port and will ditch this one ASAP.

I just scuffed it and used plastidpped it. Resembles the factory switches.

About the Blue Sea 1039, it's been in for a while now and am very happy with it. It takes some minor surgery on the console opening to get it to fit correctly but once that's done, you're golden. Works flawlessly and easily charges anything you wish to plug into it.

I've been following this thread and was about to put in a purchase today for the one you originally fitted into your vehicle, but I like the sounds of the one you installed after looking at it online.

I think going with the Blue Sea is a great choice. It's a solid piece designed for marine use and puts out enough juice to charge any device. I also like the flip-open cover, which keeps gunk out of the ports without having to fumble around with dust plugs.

Here are pics of it in the console (complete with a bunch of dust):

About the install, the 1039 is a bit too big for the stock opening, so you just have to kind of shave a little at a time from the sides of the opening until you can get it to pop in. It's one of those things that's tough to explain in words but you'll see exactly what to do once you look at the unit and the opening it needs to fit in. Fortunately, the 1039 has a lip that will hide anything one might do to the opening, short of outright whack-and-hack butchery.

The biggest thing to be aware of is that once you start, there's no going back to a stock-sized switch.

You mentioned add a circuit...did you just jump it into a fuse in the kick panel by your left knee when in the DS? Did you add a fuse?
