Does anyone know if it is possible to add the smart key or push button start to the sr5? Thanks in advance!
While "anything" is possible, this would be pretty expensive.
You must consider:
1. The current steering column lock on your truck is mechanical. That means, to unlock your steering wheel, you need the key. (In my limited, the steering wheel lock is servo-driven. That's to say, when I press my button [with my fob in the car] the servo activates and "unbolts" the steering wheel. Like wise, when I turn the car off it re-engages to lock the steering column)
2. The "push button" start systems consist of several security features, my smartkey for example is programmed into my truck's ecu so that when my smart key transmits to the vehicle the vehicle's antitheft system is disengaged. Your SR5 has the chip in the key itself, so you'd have to somehow swap all that stuff out (Again, not very cheap here)
3. While you could add a "push button" start, per se, you'd still have to put your key in the ignition, turn it to on, and then press the button (in lieu of twisting the key to start)
This feature is so incorporated into the vehicle itself that it's not just a matter of putting in the button etc. There's quite a lot to the smart key system (sensors and such). There really isn't a very simple way to add this functionality - it's just cost prohibitive.
