I am with ya here Bofa. Based on all I have read and limited knowledge on CAI's, I see no benefit. As I understand what a Cold Air Intake is, we already have one from the factory. Air is drawn in from outside the engine compartment. In our case, outside the wheel well. (Colder air)
Both AFE and TRD does the same. Now ours might have some baffling in the draw tube which the others do not have, or have a different less restrictive pattern, but it does not seem to matter.
I think Antman actually cut the draw tube in half (length wise), allowing more air, albeit warmer air since it was inside the engine compartment, and if I remember correctly, he did not notice much if any difference. (Please chime in if I am wrong Antman).
Also As I remember, I think it was 1engineer who stated something to the effect that no matter how much more one opens up the intake, the actual air orifice at the throttle body is so small, it will only allow so much air to come in no matter what else happens at the intake system. (Short of a forced induction system of some type....supercharger etc.)
I think the only mod one can do with any noticeable effect and even at that, it is minimal and subjective to the owner, is possibly a less restrictive air filter like a K&N, where there is "possible" faster response at the lower end due to more available air (faster), off the line. But even that minimal so called benefit, no difference overall HP or MPG. I say save the money and buy new tires.......Be safe.
