Aftermarket Alarm Options

So I have searched the thread for any leading information on alarms.. I did some reached over at Best Buy for the types they sell and install.. Compustar.. Drone.. Smart Alarm by Viper and Viper..

Anyone used the following? Feed backs maybe?? I am leaning towards the smart alarm but hate the yearly fee just to get that cool factor type of thing..

I just ordered a Compustar alarm w/drone from gshadow325 on this forum.
He pre-wires everything for our 4runner, making install doable for an amateur...
Great guy to work with and great price.

I looked at their website but didn't see a glass breakage detector? That's usually how someone will get in.

Did you install it your self or had a shop in stall it? And your drone is it subscription base like Viper?

Double down on this - this is what I would use an alarm for.

The local shop offers Viper remote + alarm installation and not Compustar. I am not a fan of using another key fob on my car, and I read compustar can use the OEM remote.

I'd also ask - does compustar offer an app to monitor the state of the car once running.

I also have the compustar installed. The key fob provided gives you a countdown from 25 minutes when you activate the remote start.

I installed the CompuStar T11 last night in my 4Runner using his kit. The way he has everything wired up already makes sense, and it is much easier than the old DEI days (Viper/Clifford).

As for the glass break sensor, the DAS in the CompuStar kit has an accelerometer/shock/tilt sensor combo built all in one. After bumping my truck this morning with my laptop bag while running late to work, I can guarantee you that it will pick up on a window being smashed.

...I might actually need to lower the sensitivity on that...

I have the Viper alarm with remote start on mine. It comes with 2 key fobs but the OEM key fob works with the alarm. Got it for around $300 installed.

I did not do the the Drone Mobile add-on for my T11 system. At the time of purchase, I couldn't justify the monthly/yearly subscription price. However, I have since learned that I can very easily add to it my system anytime I want to.

What kind of "kit" does he provide other than what the normal Compustar T11 has? Also, how do you set the sensitivity on the alarm? I do not see anywhere in the instructions on how to set that.

As far as the settings go, you would have to get with Steve on that. I am going to try to give him a call once I have time.

His "kit" is customized to what you need. I got the T11, DAS, and RPS Touch. What he then does is wire it all up and program it for you and provide instructions for integrating it into your 4Runner. I was pretty nervous about the install procedure since you must solder onto wires in your truck, but it went fine.

Yea, i was thinking the DAS might be sensitive enough but I'd want to ask the company to get their opinion. Wasn't trying to scare you guys or anything. Just exploring options. My last 4Runner was broken into. They smashed the rear window on the drivers side, climbed through and stole the usual stuff. They were really good, didn't cut anything, just unplugged all the harnesses and even left the mounting bolts in the cup holder for me. They knew exactly how to avoid the factory alarm. And the 5th gen alarm is no different. My neighbor who's bedroom was about 15 feet away was a security guard and he didn't hear anything either. His car was broken into also.....they did the whole neighborhood in one night.

The Compustar T11 pro is just the radio and keyfob kit for the Compustar core kit. The company doesn't sell their equipment to consumers so you actually have to have the radio/fob kit, the core system which comes in different flavors depending on whether you want just security or also remote start, and there is also a 'blade' that is programmed to interface with the car and contains the settings programming. The install can be a little daunting if you are doing it yourself but completing it is it's own reward.

He sent all the components prepped with the wiring all harnessed up and the blade configured so when I got everything wired in it was working flawlessly.

The looming he built was perfect for the application and looked very professional. He also had helpful info about exactly what electrical tape to buy so it doesn't degrade with time or heat. I love the extended range of the Pro T11 radio kit, and being able to remote start as well as get temp, and battery voltage info right on the fob.

And the very best part with it is that when you open the door the engine doesn't shut off.

Well worth the time, money, and effort in my book, and Steve was awesome to deal with.

I'm checking this out too..t11, very upgradeable system, would you mind answering a few questions?

does the unit use the factory fob?
will the vehicle automatically open when your fob gets near to the vehicle?

Sure.

1) Yes, you can use the factory remote, but T11 remote is much better in that it gives you feedback as well as extended range. I am still getting used to my system - so, I use both.

2) Yes, you can get the EZ-Go system for a very reasonable price from Steve. I was actually amazed at how inexpensive it is.

I did not get the EZ-Go or the Drone Mobile, but I did get the RPS Touch. RPS Touch adds a touch sensitive panel to your windshield that allows you to lock/unlock the doors and arm/disarm the alarm system all without your key fob. My favorite feature of this? It will call you on your T11 fob if someone tries to mess with it in any way.

All-in-all I love this setup, and Steve's customer service was fantastic.
