So, the guy in Springfield didn't correctly hook-up your reverse or headlight tap? Don't think I'll be using him!

I need to find a good installer in the DC area, though. I've been to a few, and I haven't been too happy with any of them due to expensive prices, poor install, or unwillingness to bypass the unit for navigation operations underway. Anyone have any suggestions?

Nah, he didn't do the reverse camera or the headlight. In his defense i think it was his first 4runner..we couldn't find any wiring diagrams and the ones i had from t4r.org were for the limited!

If you need a hand installing any of that, let me know. I took apart my SR5 2x and the limited once as well. I would also suggest some posi tap connectors (see my pics above) and some double ended connectors from Home Depot or some electronics store - maybe Micro Center? The posi taps will keep you from needing to splice lines, and the radio harness will need to connect to the adapter harness with the wire connectors.

You may want to consider where to tap into the back up camera feed. The Positaps will come in handy here, and you'll want to make your own RCA cable by cutting one apart. I know it's a little bit of a haul for you, but I'm only a few miles beyond Bobby's shop.

Is there a market for this stuff? Actually like the Nav but don't use it at all. Looks slick and seems to work well. In Hawaii there's not much need for Nav. Also want to include the 10 channel JBL amp. Also works well but I need more freedom to adjust and tune...Anyone care to make an offer? I'll get a pro shop to remove the head unit, amp and as much of wiring harness in tact as humanly possible. The sub you can have for free. Not the box. Just the really heavy duty, ground pounding sub with the 6 ounce magnet. Can also have the stock speakers but I trashed one of the front door speakers.

Sell it on Ebay!It is a Gen 6 JBL nav and can be plug and play with just a little work with older Gen 5 JBL Nav's used across the board on Toyota's so that's why it's desireable to them. Sold mine for $800 in like a day on Ebay.

I'm a human and I could take the whole JBL harness out if I really wanted or needed to.Parts are parts, they all come out!

Anyone know if the Entune unit is easy to put into a 5th gen not originally equipped with Entune?

I think I will post it on eBay. Is it really that easy to remove the amp and wiring harness in tact? Lot of wires going into hidden places and lots of connectors. I know I can remove it if I cut off some connectors but don't want to make the thing too hard to reinstall.

Easy? I never said it would be easy......just that it was humanly possible. You would have to practically take the whole truck apart as the wires for the stereos are bundled with the whole truck wiring harness and branches out like a tree.

I guess if you cut all the connectors off and included them that it could be re-wired from the HU to the Amp.That's a lot of work and possible headaches as it's tied into a multi media interface ECU also.

Has anyone figured out a way to play video on nav by splicing into the rear view camera wire?

You can do it by making an RCA cable. Tap into the video feed in the rear view mirror. You can run that down the A pillar and through the dash to the head unit. You can utilize the same reverse sensing wire that antman mentions in a few of his threads. He pointed me to a good one to use (see pics in my post earlier in this thread) when I was setting mine up.
Basic answer is yes, not a big deal.

Just ordered a complete system yesterday with new Kenwood with the Garmin built in nav system. Has CD/DVD/XM/ slash all of the things you can stream through your smart phone (Pandora, etc). Got new speakers, wiring harnesses, and the unit will use a cable that connects in to the steering wheel controls. I have been a Garmin person for quite a few years so that was the deciding factor for me, as to brand. You do not need a superior system in a 4wheel drive vehicle with large tires creating noise that would override your ability to here the finer points. As for my car, it is a Lexus with the Mark Levinson system. That is quite a bit different!!

I never use the voice command to be honest, but I did look on the Pioneer website and the Z140BH page states it does still have the voice command. I'm interested in the fact that it can integrate with an Android phone, Pandora, iphone Apps etc.

Which Kenwood unit did you purchase? As for the steering wheel controls, I hope it's not the SWI JAC. I was unhappy with the unit and returned it in favor of the Metra ASWC. I found it much easier to configure.

Concerning the Mark Levinson system in the Lexus, I would wager a good bit that the magnets in those speakers are also wafer thin, and as such, you would be well served by an upgrade in speaker quality. Better products can be found in the after market than the lowest bidder "luxury" brand, but you know that already.
