Link to pic of the headlight dim wire?

Hoping for the reverse wire to be there.

hmm. i'll have to look. I know that the illumination wire is orange. So when you turn your headlights on the screen dims, or goes into night mode.

edit: i dont' have a picture of that. But, i remember it is orange. Not sure which harness it is on though. Sorry.

Ok no big deal then, it's a normal wire part of the harness system? - ie: its not part of a splice part like the rear camera wire.

i mean, yeah, i would think you would have it. Since your factory radio would dim too depending on if your headlights were on or not. So, that wire should be there, you just gotta connect it. It's orange, i just don't remember which connector it would be. I guess it would probably be on the main one that connects to the radio. But, you might want to double check that.

Been searching for an hour or so with no luck, figured I would just ask. Is anyone successfully using the steering wheel controls for Bluetooth with the axxess adapter? Crutchfield is saying no. If not is anyone using a different adapter?

I am in the same boat here, looking at adding an alpine head unit, on their website they state that if your car has BT steering wheel controls, they will work with their unit with the use of an adapter such as PAC or axxess, but I haven't been able to find anyone who has done it.

been doing a bit of reading, the axxess steering wheel module does seem to support BT steering wheel controls,

from the installation instructions:
For vehicles with OE Bluetooth buttons please press hang up or pick up on your steering wheel control after the LED on the ASWC-1 goes solid. If the OE Bluetooth buttons are able to be used, the LED will go out after three seconds. Your OE Bluetooth buttons are now programmed to your aftermarket radios Bluetooth buttons. (Aftermarket radio must have Bluetooth capabilities)

the data-link maestro also states that it supports this. I am going with the access as they offer a wiring harness adaptor that has the steering wheel and aux input pre-wired.

oh, I just read post #401, sounds like the bluetooth worked for Johnny Utah, that was my final question answered, been holding off going aftermarket until I was certain, just ordered an Alpine ICS-X7, hopefully I will be able to get it all installed by memorial day or so.

Yeah, I finally spent the time and customized my axxess steering wheel controls. The access unit auto programs the volume up and down, the next and back track button and the mode button, which changes the radio to iPod to Bluetooth etc. It did not auto program the answer and hang up button or the voice command button. Go back a few pages and find the pdf I posted. In that pdf is section for customizing the install or customize programming the buttons. It took me about 30 mins of trial and error but it's pretty easy. I programmed the Bluetooth call answer and hang up button which works for my galaxy s3, and the voice command button I programmed that to mute the whole system instead. Pretty cool. Don't forget to hit the button that basically saves your config. I messed that up afew times, and it didn't save it. I think you hit the volume up button for a second to tell the unit you are done programming. But again it's all in that pdf I posted. Good luck

I posted earlier my disappointment with the Entune HU and my interest in an Appradio. Bestbuy was clearing out Appradio 2s and I picked one up for $199. Now, it doesn't have Nav built in (it uses your smart phone), but I like it much more than the Entune HU. I installed in my 370Z (not yet in my 4Runner):

I just did the pioneer avh-p8400bh and a flip down rear screen over the weekend. It has that app mode as well, but the dual zone DVD system is what I wanted. Details are in my build thread.

If I were doing a flip down, I'd do the same - nice choice. I just went with the iPad as rear seat entertainment; that or a game of "pull my finger" which never ends well for the passengers and occasionally goes bad for the driver (mudding on the inside of the car).

Did you do the brake bypass? I did and it works great.

I read mixed reviews on the app itself in itunes/android. Does it work pretty well for you guys? The app connection with the radio?

I've liked it a lot. I think you have to ask yourself if you will use the apps that aren't otherwise available on more conventional HUs (e.g Pandora is available on many HUs now). I like the nav apps, escort live, the web browser, and dash command is really great. The sound quality and adjustability are excellent (in my opinion) and the price as compared to the cost of a nav HU and it isn't bad. I think there are growing options for app based or mirroring HUs, so there are probably others worth considering. Again, I'm quite pleased, especially after living with the Atari-like graphics of the Entune unit.

For Android users, there is something called ARLiberator; maybe worth checking out.

Thanks for your review and thank you very fn much for that app recommendation. Holy sh*t! That is amazing. I would buy this in a heart beat if my wife used android.

I'm not very impressed with the app function. I can only hope in the future they upgrade it via firmware and a better app.

II think it is much better than it was, whatever that is worth and relative to Entune, I find it much more useful. Also, it depends what you pay: retail I wouldn't buy, $200 for me was more than worth it.

I think part of it depends on how much you use your smart phone. I constantly have mine in my hand and I like the music apps and nav apps, so I'm more apt to find the app mode useful and might be more forgiving of quirks and bugs.

Finally, the brake bypass makes a big difference in appeal. This isn't because I text or read emails while I drive (I don't), it is just a matter of convenience.

I think many folks would find other HUs more appealing. Also, if you have Entine, it is worth considering whether or not an Appradio might decrease resale value (esp if you don't add the nav module and don't have a CD player).

got my backup cam working with my Alpine HU, the wiring combo that worked for me was

Red wire next to the blue, whiteblk, red. I tapped the red wire for pwr.

on the other side of the connector, I used the white wire for v+ and black for v-

mine is a 2011 sr5 with the mirror reverse monitor. both now work.
