Aggressive Tires for my 4Runner?

Yes I'm am saying there is an M/T tire that is quiet on pavment and its the toyo M/T no BULL. I researched it high and low and in the end I was still in question. But I bought them and they are nothing short then awsome.

Where did you see that I said there M/T are as good as M/T tires in the snow and rain as the revos? I know for sure the revoes would be better in rain but not deep snow 12" plus then the TOYO's hands down. But then again we usualy dont get 12" of snow, here in Canada LOL. This is from expeirence. And whats the point of buying an M/T just for looks"? I'm sure there might be a few people but I am not one of them.

I'm sure Revoes have there place aswell as M/T.:D :D

I've had a side by side test in a steady rain two weeks ago with my friend's '00 4Runner equipped with BFGs vs my Nittos and the TerraGrapplers resisted hydroplaning till almost 73mph while the BFGs got unsteady at just under 60mph.

I'm not saying driving in the rain at high speeds with Nittos is safe but imagine how much more control i had at 60mph with my Nittos while my buddy was getting nervous while at that speed. One look at the tread patterns of both and you can see the better water evacuation channels of the Nittos.

The same size package of the BFGs out the door at Discount would have run me $200 more and after these Nittos I'll never own another BFG on a daily driver. (I did spend 6 years on two sets on my GF's '97 Tacoma)
BFGs are overrated IMO and most people get them because they are the tire to be seen on and never see the abuse they truly can handle and are intended for.

cost vs performance is hard to beat with the Terra Grapplers plus they have a cool name. :D:D

Toyo M/T make for 17"

Here are some pics for my other truck (I traded it in for the 4runner 3 days ago). I had it with BFG A/T and later with Toyo M/T

The smallest 17 is 35". Have fun getting that to fit on a 4Runner.

The 4th gen Limited and Sport can't use a 16" wheel, front brakes are too big.

The Toyot M/T is an option for SR5s and other gens with 16" wheels.

Koz, i would almost guarantee you that BFG AT KO will outperform REVO off-road. Forget the tread design...the sidewall on the BFG is a lot tougher than REVO. REVO's sidewall is only 2-ply. This comes into play when you air down and drive around sharp rocks.

On-road, i agree with you. REVO is superior to BFG AT KO. In snow, i don't know. BFG AT KO and Goodyear Wrangler SA are the ONLY two AT tire to have the "snowflake-on-mountain" symbol to represent severe snow traction. So, until REVO has that designation, i have my doubts about REVO (or Nittos) being better than BFG AT KO in snow. People's experience is unreliable and bias. The snowflake symbol, on the hand, is undeniable proof. :)
 
Ron...i have disagreed with you in the past and i will do the same again. Nittos are great value tires. No doubt. However, it is NOT better than BFG AT KO.

Here is what i posted in the past:

Noise level is pretty much the same across the line. In fact, i found the BFG to be slightly quieter than Nittos on my G500. The Nittos hummed significantly on the highway. This was very noticeable by anyone in my car...Discount Tire advisor said that it was due to the center tread being continuous or something like that. My BFG AT KO does not do this...you hear a slight humming only...not noticeable unless you listen for it. In addition, i compared side wall thickness and it was not even close. I found that Nittos' sidewall was even thinner than my old Yokohama HT that came stock on my G. I swapped back to the Yokohamas after 1 week on Nittos.

In tires, i trust big companies with history of making tires. I would rather buy from Goodyear or Michelin than from Cooper or Toyos. Now, don't get me wrong, these tires are good quality i am sure, but it's just my personal bias. (In other words, my opinion on this point is purely choice rather than fact.)

As stated above, i have had both tires on the same vehicle (head-to-head comparo), and i found the BFG to be a bit quieter on the highway. Trust me, if i did not believe this, then my G would have Nittos because they are much cheaper than BFG.

There are tons of people driving Camrys. A lot of people having one product means that the product is PROVEN. This is what i meant by above. People come back to it. Recently, i was influenced by flashy advertisements for Goodyear SilentArmor. I almost made the jump. However, after comparing both tires side-by-side at my local tire store, i found that BFG's sidewall was thicker. And for MY purpose (on-road and off-road with rocks, including airing down), i need the extra durability that BFG offers.

So,...just to make sure; I will be ok if I go with the Nitto TerraGrappler's in a 265/70/17 configuration with my stock 4Runner Limited?

No rubbing, no clearance issues?

Has anyone got pictures of my proposed set up?

I have "P" rated Revos , great on road and in rain , I was very disappointed in off road and snow. I was pumped about trying a different tire than the BFG AT I'm used to ( always had them on all my trucks ) , I never had a problem with hydro , snow , off road ect... best all around AT tire IMO.

I was pumped mainly about snow driving with Revos , the light stuff was great . In heavy wet , deep snow , off road and even mud , they can't hold a candle to BFG AT IMO. Even in mud I thought the Revos were terrible compared to what I'm used to with BFG. As we all know AT tire's are not good mudders anyway.

On the Revos behalf they are also night and day difference between stock Donlop AT20's. A set of revos will make your 4R shine over the stockers in ride and handling.

I cant answer for the "E" rated Revo or the Nitto TG since I've never had them , but I will go back BFG .

From my limited off-road use of both the LT REVOs and the KOs, I had no problems with either and they both did a great job. I think that the LT REVOs 700+ lbs. more load rating would indicate a little stronger construction, just my opinion.

I would not take a snowflake symbol over 2500 owners that rate the REVOs better in every single aspect, sorry!

That like saying oil is better because it has an API symbol, NOT!

My opinion is based on having the GSA (OEM), KOs, LTXs and the LT REVOs on a vehicle that DEMANDS traction (2WD PreRunner W/TRD Blower). None of these tires compare to the LT REVOs. All I can say is, if you want the best rated all-round A/T tire on the market, you can't go wrong with the LT REVOs. I would rate the Grapplers second based on information/owners opinions/reviews regardless of a snowflake symbol.

However, like i said above, the snowflake symbol is concrete proof. Let me ask you...why doesn't the REVO have this symbol???? Why is it that BFG AT KO and Goodyear Wrangler SA both have it??? And the snowflake symbol is very significant if you read up on it's requirements and definitions.

What i care most is the proven reputation AND the sidewall strength. And this is where BFG AT KO stands above every other AT tire. Next time that you're at a tire shop, ask them to line up different AT tires. Then, measure the sidewall thickness if you do not believe in the ply ratings. I can tell you from experience that BFG AT KO has the thickest sidewall of all the AT tires listed in this thread...by far.

Basically, the Snowflake symbol is so proven that many states/cities are adopting it as a requirement in their snow zone. Example:

"However, the State of Oregon isn't about to wait. Until now motorists had to carry and/or use studded tires or tire chains in Oregon snow zones when required during winter weather. The Oregon Department of Transportation estimates that each year $11 million dollars is spent to repair damage caused by studded tires. The P & LT REVOs do have the same tread pattern but the LT's pattern is more aggressive. The treads on the LTs are deeper and wider then the P. Plus the sidewall is very similar to the KOs, where the bead protrudes to protect the rims. The LT's overall tread width is also wider. There is a BIG difference between the P & the LTs. I think if you put the LTs next to the KOs you would change your mind. To me, I would say that the LTs are a little more beefy.

A snowflake symbol branded on the tire's sidewall identifies tires that met the RMA required performance tests. The snowflake symbol was expected to be fully implemented on new tires by now. There are still some tires in the marketplace that meet the requirements to display the snowflake symbol but the molds used to make the tires were produced before the symbol was developed.

Koz, geez, you're arguing to no end in face of obvious evidence, how many ply is in your sidewall?? TWO. How many ply is in BFG AT KO's sidewall?? THREE.

Which AT tire do you see the most on off-roading vehicles?? BFG AT KO. There is a reason for that.

Thai dont bother getting upset over people ignorance. I gave up with these types of issues long time in the home place with relitives. I know you said you see most off-roading vehicles you see the KO's on, and there is a reason for it. If they were not good people would not by them over and over for there trucks, but simply they are an excellent tire.

I had them and loved them I got 112,000 KM out of them and still had 8/32nd on them.:)
