Bridgestone offers a lot of winter tires. They'll never cut into their own market with an RMA certified winter AT tire. It would surprise me if the did.

BFG sells ZERO winter tires. Neither does Goodyear. So the snowflake increases their potential market.

If you want a winter tire buy a winter tire, if you want an A/T buy an A/T. Buy what ever you want no pun intended.:bash: The more we dicuss this the more my head hurts.

I might be wrong, but as far as I know, manufactures have to pay for this symbol which will affect tire cost. I think some manufactures decided not to go this way. If I read some articles right, this symbol is not obligatory, so everyone is deciding themselves if they want it or not.

For off-roading, I would take the BFG A/T KO hands down. Triple ply sidewalls, rim protectors, and a proven history of over 45 million miles (tirerack.com), should be enough evidence to prove this. Historically, these tires (the BFG A/T) have had issues on the road, but it appears as though they have resolved some of these issues.

The Revo's have a recent design (so if they were Severe Service certified, they would have had the snowflake in the mold by now. They have slipped a little in their ratings on tirerack.com as the mileage ratings have accrued (now at 31 million miles). The Revo's might behave better on road at higher speeds because of the flex in the sidewall which the BFG's don't have, and would most certainly be more forgiving in the ride quality.

I guess it depends on what you plan to do... If you want to do some serious rock-crawling, aluminum rims are the best anyway, so I would go pick up a set of 17" steel rims and mount some BFG A/T's on them and swap them out when you plan to do some serious stuff. If you are doing the weekend off-roading stuff (rough trails, mud, sand) but plan on using the same tires daily, I'd probably lean towards the Revo's.

But not tread depth or tread width. Both affect traction. The LT may have wider channels, better cleaning.



Falls and Koz have owned both tires, but Koz the LT. It sounds like Koz has had both tires on the same vehicle. They base their opinions on personal experience, not what the read on the internet. And they don't agree. :D


A just a little more fuel to the fire .... I've never read of balancing\wear\vibration\noise issues with Revos. :bigok: But I'm sure it happens.

Then really we are all SOL. There is no such thing as a all-season or A/t. Its like shoes, you have soccer shoes, golf shoes dance shoes, hiking boots/shoes etc etc... There is no such thing as an all purpose tire. You just have to take the good with the bad.

If you want an A/T tire for mainly road then buy revos if you want it for sum light duty off road not mud buy KO's. Dont belive me just put them on and decide for youself. People here are trying to save you some heart ache and money in your pockets.

I agree that the KOs are probably better off-road then the LTs but my point is you have never used or even seen a set of LTs so what you are claiming is obvious, is actually assumption. The FACT is I've had both and the KOs and they are great off-road but I wouldn't say any better then the LTs. Also a FACT; 2500 owners of REVOs rated them better in every other aspect over 1500 owners of KOs. So what's obvious? Because the KOs have a 3 ply sidewall does that automatically makes them better tires, when 2500 owners rate the REVOs WAY better. You are arguing your opinion just as I am mine. I don't want to beat this dead horse anymore. Anyone who wants to get tires can review all the info available and make their own decision based on what their intended use is.

Where I have a problem with this thread is the fact that some people can OBVIOUSLY break the rules on this site and nothing is even said, yet others that are not liked are threatened to banned for just disagreeing. I don't appreciate SKO450ES implying that I'm ignorant ("Thai dont bother getting upset over people ignorance.") and I take offence to it. Now let

We have rules here and they should apply to everyone! Yes, I take offence to being called ignorant. I post on this site first because I love the 4Runner and second to try and help other members. If you took the time to look at my prior posts on this site before you felt the need to insult me you would have seen this and maybe been a little more diplomatic with your insults.

Koz, i have plenty of experience with the LT REVOs. In 2003, i was one of the FIRST owners of REVOs (when they came out) in Texas. Size? 265/75/16 for my 2002 4runner. That is LT-rated i believe. So, my opinion is based on both direct comparison (side-by-side) and fact. I had REVOs and BFG AT KO on my '02 4runner.

BFG AT KO is a tougher tire off-road due to the stronger sidewall. This is fact. BFG AT KO may be better than REVO in snow/ice due to it's snowflake designation.

REVOs may be better than BFG AT KO on dry land and in rain.

REVOs came out AFTER BFG AT KO. And BFG AT KO has snowflake symbol, REVO does not. And like stated above, the snowflake symbol is important and the safety regulations reflect this.

These are the facts. I have had experience with both tires (both LT-rated). And if you know me, then i do NOT lie nor make up stuff.
 
Personally, if i were more concern about on-road ride and all-weather travel, then i would get the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor (my #2 favorite SUV tire). It has the all-weather capability & quiet ride of REVOs, but has tougher sidewall (Durawall) and has snowflake symbol.

BFG AT KO = off-road oriented people who still desire on-road comfort; snowflake symbol.

Goodyear Wrangler SA = on-road oriented people who still desires some off-road capability; snowflake symbol.

Sorry mikestang for my BS. I beleive you would be very happy with the KO's you cant go wrong. What I noticed is they stayed true, squared off to the end. What I mean is usually when a tire gets old it tends to bulge more and is not as rigid but not the KO's.

They have never let me down, from driving on lake simco every weekend ice fishing over presure crackes to light off roading all fall time when hunting to loading up the truck & trailer with crap.

I would buy them again but decided to go the M/T route for a try. I bought a set for dads old truck and he was pleased with them, and when his new truck needs tires we will be switching over to KO's again unless there is something better out there for our applications.
