Ah the Joy. My tranny is only using 3 gears.

Its a 03 V8 Limited. All wheel drive, you know the routine.

bought it used with 117k highway miles. Worked well for a year and half, has 133,000 miles on it.

this weekend we went up to the mountains did some real easy 4x4- gravel road kind of stuff, then went on highway, no trouble.


coming back home, it wont shift beyond 3rd gear. You can't manually shift it up or down ( if you put it in D or 4rth you get nothing, other than when you let off the gas it idles down to 1k) so ie at 60 mph Im running near 3000 rpm whether your in 3rd, 4rth or D. One thing is, you get good engine braking while in 3rd. None at all in 4rth or D. Its as though you put it in N and the engine just idles at 1000k as you haull ass down the mountain.


any clues or is this going to the dealer?:bash:

I would by pass the dealer and go direct to a quality transmission repair shop.

What?

I DID NOT say I put it in Neutral descending, I said 'it is like its in neutral', as in right now, the tranny in its wonky state freewheels and does not give any torque converter braking at all.

if you descended any of these colorado mountains in neutral you wouldnt just ruin your tranny, you set your wheels on fire after your brakes exploded.

I've heard that but never understood... why?
