i'm sure this has been done before .
got tired of air compressor taking up space in rear so I mounted it in engine compartment . inexpensive a/comp I got from Pep Boys a few years ago . does a good job airing up tires after the beach (portable tanks work much faster but eats up space).
parts used: 2 heavy duty cable straps , 2 strips 1" x 2" foam rubber , cigarette lighter plug with rubber cover (marine type), inline fuse holder .
mounted a/comp next to a/c filter box with 2 cable straps through existing holes on plate next to power steering reservoir , used rubber strips doubled over to keep sharp metal edges from digging into straps. the compressor has rubber feet to isolate vibrations & I did not have to over tighten straps to keep unit in place. ran the power cord through horn area . installed cig lighter plug on existing tapped hole aft of the fuse box on side wall. ran positive lead with inline fuse (15amp) to bolt on positive battery cable , ran ground wire to ground wire of battery on sidewall.
the rubber cap keeps dirt & water out of plug area & compressor plug has it's own sheath to cover contacts when not in use . for safety sake I did not hard wire the unit or leave it plugged in.
the air hose will reach the farthest wheel LR & has a threaded fitting so you don't have to hold it on the valve stem.
air hose is stowed in rear with the jack . the hose is plastic & I don't think it would fair well left under the hood with all that heat.
took about 15min to hook it all up.
