Aircon and cracked dash...

I have a 2005 TR4 sport V8. I just recently did the brakes, full tune up, oil change, and serviced the aircon. The AC guy said my evaporator is leaking and needs to be replaced. He also said that at the same time I should change the expansion valve and the aircon filter. He said the entire dash has to come out to compete the job. Is this true? Can I do this job myself? If i can do it myself, ill follow the cracked dash thread and how too. I'm mechanically inclined and have a lot of tools. I also have the cracked dash problem that comes with many 4th gen tr4's. so I was wondering in anyone has tried to use plastidip and spray the entire dash? If the dash does have to come out for the evaporator , then I'm going to try and spray plastidip over the dash and see how it turns out. I figure a couple of bucks in spray cans beats 800-900 bucks for a dash. Thanks for any input!

Pick up a service manual from Haynes or Clymer to find where all the parts are and how to get things apart. They tend to have step by step procedures for taking everything apart, repairing it and putting it back together.

I'll pick one up and try this out. While the dash is out I'm going to plastidip the entire thing to try and cover up the cracks.

I have a cracked dash too but I don't know that plasti-dip is the solution. It might work but I could see there being durability issues down the road.

One member on here recovered his dash with fabric and I believe it turned out pretty good, might be worth a look at.
