Fvck. Now I don't see any Magnetic Gray Metallic Trail editions in the inventory.
I feel like I'm getting jerked around.
They were definitely there 2 weeks ago.

Maybe you need to get the 4x4 station wagon of the year then.You have to go to a Toyota dealer and ask to talk to the Sales Manager.Salesmen or saleswomen on the lot will tell you any BS over the phone to get you in there.

Actually, here is a screen cap of the inventory from just over a week ago.
Again, why the fcuk is Toyota making it so difficult to take my money? It's like they don't want these trucks to sell very well or something.
Maybe there were ready to go at the shipyard, thus enabling some dealerships to start listing them online, before the halt.

Just got a phone call from World Toyota in Atlanta. Apparently this re****ed problem is legitimate.

If anyone can find me a Trail Edition available for pick up by November 15, I will pay you a $500 finder fee. PM me because I'm serious.
Um your location might help us. Unless your willing to drive/fly 3,000 to pick it up.

I'm in western Virginia. I'm willing to go up to 700 miles to pick up a Trail Edition.
My $500 offer stands for the next few days until I work out some alternative arrangement.
Do you think the stealership who is stringing me along will substitute a Lexus GX for the same price in place of the Trail Edition they are teasing me with? Would it be insulting if I ask them?

Yeah I know. They are supposed to get 7 Trail Editions into World Toyota on Wednesday. The trouble is, every southeastern Toyota sales manager I've talked to says they see NO trail editions allotted for the first several months and most of them say they only see a single 4runner allotted to each dealership initially. I spoke to 2 people at World Toyota yesterday and neither of them could figure out where these mysterious vehicles were.

It's no secret that the inventory search on toyota.com is flawed. Many of the dealership inventory searched pull data from the same source.
The dealership by me has stated that "if you don't see the full VIN in the search result, then we don't have it". I fooled around with this BS trying to find a Sequoia, fortunately long enough to see that I like the new 4Rs better than the over-inflated Highlanders anyway.
I've emailed my sales guy who's got my deposit. I can't wait to see what he says. Wonder if he'll make up for any depreciation my trade-in has due to a delay... right.

Please let me know what he says. My information could be wrong but I'm passing along exactly what I was told.
Right now I'm on hold with Toyota USA (800-331-4331) to see if they can confirm or deny this delay based on a stupid hitch connector. What a frustrating mess.
I sent the inventory link from above to the internet sales manager at World Toyota in Atlanta and told them I'm ready to pick it up on the listed November 4 delivery date. I can't wait to hear how they respond. :laughing:
The dealer I have my deposit with is actually not in Atlanta. They are a dealer outside the state of GA who is owned by the JM Family group which is the largest dealer of ToMoCo products and parts in the Southeast. So, I assume their information about the hitch problem is correct.
But I find it hard to believe that Toyota is willing to risk losing sales over a $15 part because of a potential lawsuit liability. By the way, what kind of idiot is going to sue because they didn't get their $15 hitch adapter? Wouldn't the judge take one look at it and say, "Okay Toyota, you owe them $15 or the hitch adapter"?

Heh. Well that was predictable. I spoke to "David" at the 800 number on the Toyota website. He was actually sort of rude. He couldn't find any information about any delays or Monroney issues but he said it might be several months before any 4runners really start showing up. As he was digging deeper in to the issue, my Skype call got disconnected. I didn't really feel like sitting on hold for another 20 minutes and then going through the whole goddam fiasco again so screw it.
Also, check the link I posted to the "inventory list". The delivery date was bumped back from 11/4 to 11/5. I'm guessing they are going to do that every day until sometime next January.
What a total let down.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for an alternative vehicle for me to buy that competes with the 4runner for size, utility, and reliability?

I heard back. As far as he knows - there's one coming in Friday that I am scheduled to test drive. I don't think he'd take the chance in pissing me off if he wasn't fairly confident he was getting the vehicle. The one I ordered is still due to arrive with their second allotment in December "probably right before Christmas". He has yet to narrow down the date, but I appreciate his honesty.

Can I ask which trim you ordered and what your out-the-door price is?
I ordered a Trail Edition w/o Nav and KDSS and my out-the-door price is right at 37.9k IIRC. Although that seems higher than MSRP listed on Toyota website, if you actually look at some of the SE inventory, it seems like all the stupid doo-hickeys they include in most of the scheduled-to-be-delivered vehicles actually range from low 37s to high 41s depending on options and "conveniences".
The woman I'm dealing with also seems very honest and has called me every few days. I actually first contacted her back in October and she was able to tell me that there are only 18 TEs in port from the first boatload. She called 6 dealers before she found a TE that wasn't already sold (or spoken for) and was able to switch allotments to get a TE delivered and to give up their LTD to the dealer who is relinquishing the TE.
When I spoke to her last night and she explained the additional delay, she actually mentioned that they may knock an additional $500-1,000 off my price to allow me to rent a car while I am in California and then pick up the TE when it finally arrives in mid-December and I return to visit family for Christmas. However, I am now worried that I will get yet another call in December with a delay and if that is the case, I will realistically not be able to accommodate such a delay and then I would be out the cost of my car rental and still be in the position of having to find a car to buy to drive to CA around New Years. So, I guess I should still think about looking for an alternative to the T4R. At this point, I don't really want anything else.
I don't want to offend her but I might consider a new Lexus GX if they can knock $7k off the price. (But I doubt they could).

If you don't plan on off-roading much, then the Subarus are excellent choices. But, if you want to stick to macho SUVs, then i would take a look at Nissan Xterra Off-road...that thing has good crash testing scores, just as practical as 4runner, similar part-time 4wd systems with stability control, and probably just as capable off-road. Since the 2010 4runner is possibly a step down in luxury, i think that the Xterra is now its natural competitor.
Just because I was bored at lunch one day, I test drove both the Xterra and the Pathfinder. I was not impressed. I prefer our 6 year old 4th gen 4Runner with 155k miles over either one of them.
How about a Ford Exploder? It's still truck-based, isn't it? Although, I think it has 4-wheel independent suspension now.
