Well - Now it's 11/15-23. He stated the first few were delayed, so the allocation he gets is supposed to be a larger one (8 - he was only due to get 1 today). Mine is still due mid December.
I'm optimistic, but keeping options open. Sequoia... maybe, but for that kind of cabbage the Mercedes GL would be the ticket.

I'm going to test drive a GLK this weekend. It can't do what the T4R TE can but the only vehicle that can (Jeep Wrangler and Nissan Xterra) just don't appeal to me.
The new GLK is getting good reviews from Consumer Reports.
? A GL is much more expensive than a Sequoia. The Sequoia starts at $39k. The GL starts at $60k.

Mercedes GLK is the C-class based miniSUV. GLK starts at around $33k (for 2wd model) and max out around $45-50k for AWD with all options. The GLK is really small...we're talking about the size of the previous Subaru Forester (smaller than the current gen). It has no LOW range...it is basically an AWD vehicle...and an expensive AWD vehicle! Mercedes 7-speed auto tranny is not perfect...there are still bugs in it (from what i hear), despite multiple TSBs. Personally, for $45k, there are many other SUV alternatives that i would rather have...and most are far more practical too.
Although the GL starts at $60k, you get a lot more standard features than the Sequoia at $39k. Therefore, a comparable Sequoia will probably run around $55-60k.

Yep. A Sequoia Platinum with Nav is A hair north of $62. A GL 450 (and the 350 Blutech Diesel) seems to be in the $67-69 range. The Audi Q7 is in the mid 50s. I'd rather get the 4Runner and have the extra cash.

Knoxville Toyota sales manger, Sonic Automotive sales representative, and apparently Tedward's sales manager at the dealership he is speaking with as well. See his post above. PM me for the names and numbers of the two people I've been working with. I don't really know if their information posted on the internet so that they can be publicly hounded for information. I'm sure they are getting tired of my phone calls alone.
The bottom line is that this is dodgy information at best. Toyota is terribly mishandling the release of their 2010 4runner and is offering no transparency regarding the factory delays or any parts problems. When I spoke to Toyota USA, the rude guy on the phone told me there was no public press release about any delays in the 4runners but that they are aware they would not be widely available for some time.
Recall that their press release at the Texas State Fair claimed dealers would receive them in October. Then they added "arrives early November" to the Toyota USA 4runner website. Now the links for the vehicles in the Southeast are being continually backed up. The screen cap I posted earlier identified their October arrival. The link I provided above initially said 11/4/09 arrival and now they say 11/10/09 arrival. And if you click the link daily, you can watch as the arrivals continually get pushed back. [it's like watching grass grow, not that fun really]

Any chance you could PM me information for your dealer? I'm trying desperately to find a 2010 4runner and the dealers I've talked to either don't know what the heck is going on, or they are claiming something about a parts delay.

FWIW, Toyota hasn't updated their Japanese website with info on a replacement for the 2010 Hilux Surf version (totally removed any link to it.) They also haven't updated the Toyota Canada site that still shows the '09. They aren't in a hurry to sell these. I think it is related to keeping their CAFE fleet average fuel consumption down in the short term. I wish we had a source at the producing plant(s).
It sounds like they are coming in in waves. I had a deposit down last month so perhaps I am in on the first wave. Obviously time will tell, but I have been told late November for the last few weeks, and the dealer gave me that window again today.
When I was in the market, all the local dealers wanted a deposit to reserve the model and color I wanted. They would say "we will probaly get one or two at absolute most so reserve exactly what you want now". So I did!

The CAFE standards will be increasing over time. From a CAFE perspective, Toyota has every motivation to sell as many 4Runners now as they can, before the CAFE standards increase in the coming years.

Yeah, I did the same thing. I put my deposit down for a Trail Edition on October 17th. The woman I worked with (my source for the info I've been posting) at the time found only 18 Trail Editions in the US (at least, using her computer). First delivery estimate was October 26- November 7. Last week it was November 16-24. Monday night it was revised to "around Christmas" and that was when I was informed of the parts delay that she said will apparently prevent any dealers from selling a 4runner before the end of the year.

On November 1st, our district rep sent us an email to us stating that the launch for CAT (Central Atlantic Toyota, PA, DE, MD, VA, WV, & DC), has been delayed one week until 11/16-11/21. We were told that they were holding the 4Runners at port in Newark until there was one for each dealer (135 in CAT). Once they received the minimum number they were shipping them out. Our first one, a silver Limited with NAV has been in in "F" (frieght) status for about a month now. We have the full VIN, but no vehicle. They are being held for the brake controller harness that come in your glovebox.
We already had our training on them almost two weeks ago. I got to drive a V6 SR5 and I have to tell you the new 4.0L is NICE! The vehicle is significantly quieter than the previous one. I personally think it looks better in person than it does in pictures online and in magazines. One thing that our staff politely expressed our opinion about was the product mix. CAT is only bringing in 1% of all 4Runners are going to be Trail Editions. Their reasoning is the pricing. The Trails are not going to be much less than Limiteds supposedly so they want people to do without options or pay more for a Limited. I personally think this is STUPID! Our dealership predominantly sold Sport Edition 4Runners with a few SR5's & Limiteds mixed in. The new third row seat is supposed to be much improved but have not seen one yet to confirm. IMO, the previous third row seat was a joke.
If you are looking for a third row seat model or a Trail Edition, jump on it if your local dealer has one or you may be working for a while. Calling Toyota and expressing your displeasure with product mix may help eventually as they may see the demand for Trails more so than SR5's & Limiteds. Our owner & GM have expressed their similar opinions to our rep so I'm hoping other dealers have done so too so they changed their mixes.

Good catch. I think I posted earlier that it had even said October when the site was very first put up.
I know I sound like a ridiculous crybaby but my frustration results only from the time crunch I'm under. Like RonMAIDEN above, I would prefer to wait for a later model all things considered.
But, I've been without a car since September 15th and I have to drive literally across the country (3,300 miles) to start a new job on December 1st.
So, I'm thankful I even have a job to start, and I would consider buying the car after I arrive in CA. But the question becomes how do I get my boxes of books and clothes and essential office tools out to the west coast?
The rest of my house (and my wife) are being paid to move out with me next June so I don't want to pay to do it twice. :wow2:

Suggestion:
* USPS Flat Rate shipping/ UPS/FexEx
* Fly to California
* Short term low cost auto rental
* Purchase Used Subi Outback in Califonia
(3-5 years old), in good condition with hopefully low miles,full service records available etc (ideally from the dealer that serviced it).
There are a lot of them available and it is a very reliable vehicle that is the vehicle of choice in snow and ski country.
*Wait for the family and new 4Runner bugs to be worked out.
* Hold off and get what you really want when it is available to you at a price you are happy with.
*Suspect there will be some mid year changes as they did in 2003.
Not sure where you are going in Calif.
First hand knowledge is this person will do her best to find or custom order up what you want
(given the parameters defined by Toyota)

Thanks for the info. I'll be moving to the Sacramento region. Any idea who offers low cost rentals? I found a "Rent-A-Wreck" but they don't have automated or online pricing. Are there alternatives to the bigger rental chains that I may be overlooking?

Mr. Tom's advice is pretty darn good.
Sacramento is cratering right now economically, etc., and the Sac housing market forecast is for more foreclosures and vacant bank owned properties, and no job engine in sight. Prices are in free fall.
I would be very hesitant to buy real estate in Sacramento right now, at least until winter hits. There is way to much inventory, way too much vacant land, and people are leaving due to lack of jobs. Even government (state capitol is in Sacramento) is losing jobs, which is not very common.
You should be able to find a great rental for not much money. Craigslist is a great resource for rental housing in California.
If you have a job or an opportunity you will enjoy Sac. Do you duck hunt? Sacramento area is one of the best places to duck hunt on the planet.
Have fun with the trip to Cali!
By the way, maybe you can bring a vehicle or a Uhaul back to California for them, since when migration is OUT of California, people coming to California are not so common and sometimes they will cover for your gas or something to drive a Uhaul back to them. Just a thought.
