Alternate Rack

Lets talk about something other than Gobi and Baja. There seems to be a million threads on them. I want to see alternate roof rack set ups. Frontrunner, K9, Ect......

Drabbits haha have not seen that in a minute! Glad I dodged that bullet.

Check out "OUTGEARSOLUTIONS" on instagram. Joe is a stand up dude and does some great quality work.

I just ordered myself a Prinsu designs 7/8 rack! For half the price of a Gobi, you should check it out! They also make a 3/4 rack and full rack.

Best part of the 7/8 is that you get the "full rack" feel without having to deviate from the OEM mounting spots. All aluminum, so no rust/lightweight and the cross members are simple aluminum pieces of extrusion, so you can basically attach anything to them.

I can't speak to the quality because I don't have it yet, but it is a sister company of CBI, so I'm sure it'll be top notch!

EDIT: I ordered my rack last Wednesday (1/31/18), just received shipping confirmation that it'll arrive to my doorstep on Friday (1/9/18). Talk about quick turnover...you don't see that with a Gobi!

Best of luck in your roof rack hunt!

I got a Rolla that mounted up pretty solid on the included pinch mounts and can be made (with aftermarket hardware) to attach to the stock roof mounts. Cheap and easily sourced (no wait) as well.....

What size rack did you get?

I am think of using the Rola Rack Mount Kit.

03-09 4RNR Rola Rack Mount Kit

But I'm not sure if it will work.

It was the small size. Fits great between the stock rails. The Rhino u-bolts are a lot cheaper than that Rola mount kit. About $35 if I remember. But I'm seriously thinking about heavy duty zip ties. My only hang up is if any sharp bends in them as they go around the mesh or stock crossbars will weaken them.

The new SSO rack is what I am saving for. Not sure if I will get it but it checks all the boxes. No drill, aluminum, full roof, looks good, t-slots, etc...:trophy:

Thanks.

I was thinking of the Rola mount so it attaches directly on the stock rails not the crossbars, so I can mount it lower. But hoping that the bolts will not touch the roof.

Zip ties is a great idea. Just cut it to remove.
Not sure if zip ties can hold the weight though unless you put alot of them.
What is your usual rack load?

zip ties are a terrible idea for securing a roof basket, are you kidding me? don't use zip ties to secure a roof basket, jfc

I've got a Rhino Rack Pioneer with the backbone mount. I opted for the 3/4 rack so I'd still get some use out of my sunroof. It's awesome. No drill, uses factory mounting locations.

You're looking at about $950 for the complete setup. Holds something like 800lb, you aren't going to have any issues piling stuff up there.

The Gobi racks look really nice don't get me wrong but there's alot more versatility in a Rhino / Frontrunner setup IMO, especially for mounting items. Plus less wind noise and overall height.

You can add rails to the sides if you want that Gobi basket kind of look. Rhino rack with the railings and several mounts and you probably still won't spend as much as a Gobi and you'll have it as fast as UPS can get it to you, not waiting months.

Yes, those are Frontrunner Corner Brackets in the pic...some of the accessories work between the two but not everything.

Have a couple eye bolt kits, 2 roto pax mounts, FR corner brackets, and the folding rhino rack cb antenna mount which is awesome!
