Annoying buzz sound from cig lighter w/ipod??

Today i plugged in a rather new ipod charger into the cig lighter in the front and then plugged it up to the ipod. As soon as it went into the ipod there was an annoying buzzing sound in the speakers that you can hear every time the songs dies down or the volume isn't that high. Has anyone experienced this or could it be the charger? I am thinking it could have something to do with the frequency of it and the ipod. Whatever the case it seems to change frequencies (louder and softer and different pitches) when i use the gas pedal. The 4R is brand new and need to know if its something that needs to be fixed under the warranty before I head back to school,

Sorry can't help as you have an 08, but there was an issue with the 2006-2007 4Runners but that should have been resolved via TSB AU004-07 "NOISE FROM AUXILIARY PORT WITH
EXTERNAL DEVICE". An improved auxiliary port and in-line filter has been developed to improve this condition.

hmm, thanks I'll have to keep researching that and see what can be done. I also have another charger I can try when I get back to school to see if it is just the charger. I would hate to have to live with that noise.

** EDIT ** I found this after searching the TSB number. Thank you very much for that. If anyone has this problem, this is also applied to the 08 4runners

There is a TSB for this on the 08s. I can't find it at the moment or I would send it to you. I took mine to the dealership and they replaced the parts and it is fine now.

What you're describing sounds like alternator whine. It probably only occurs when the engine is running and the pitch likely gets higher when your RPMs increase. Looks like Toyota came up with a little filter for that...Will have to see if mine is doing that and get it installed if it is, haven't used my iPod recently in the Runner..

Hmm i would have no idea. It is definitely coming out of the speakers though. The stealer is going to take a look at it on friday and I will let you know. My friend has an 07 with the exact same problem and the aux port is only playing music out of the left speakers.

My dealer's been trying to order the TSB parts for my 08 for the last 3 months. They said they can't find them anywhere in the country. Keep getting put on backorder or automatically cancelling. Getting a little annoyed with Toyota about this.

So I deffinetly didn't really read this thread uunnnntttiiilllll.... tonight. I heard the same buzzing sound. I use a charger only, not the FM Transmitter. As you accelerate the hum gets higher pitched. W/e, I'll deal w/ it.

This is basically a ground loop problem. Typical with many cars when, when you add more electronics and the ground is no longer "common" to all of them. If you are not having luck with Toyota for the filter, then you could do what I did ages ago: pick up a ground loop isolator.

I know this isn't the only one out there but they are cheap and will resolve the problem in a heart beat. You will need RCA adapters but I just leave it in the glove box and pull out the aux cable when I want to use it, so the size isn't an issue. One way to avoid the issue is only plug in the iPOD when you need to charge it. If it is not connected to the vehicles power, then there will be no whine.
