Another Bilstein 5100 question

Cue spacer lift horror stories and photos...

It depends on your application. If you're just going to be mall-crawling or bro-dozing, then a front spacer lift is OK (if not great). If you're going off-road at all, the spacer lift is a bad idea because it limits suspension travel so much. The Bilsteins provide for longer travel than the stock shocks do.

If you have more questions, you can always consult any of the other 1,575,236 threads here that address this topic. Just type "spacer lift" into the search bar.

I live in SoFla so this is my daily driver, airport car and race wagon. The chances of doing what you guys are doing are slim but the prospect of making the truck into something that could is part of the fun of having it. Forgive the naive questions.

Did you install yourself?

I did....the biggest PITA was the rear and trying to jam the springs back up in there with the cornfed spacers.
The fronts I did without a spring compressor and just marked and loosened the LCA bolts and lowered the arm with a jack slowly . with that loose the arm flopped down and the shock literally fell out.

5100's
2.5" Front stock springs
1.5" Cornfed rear spacer

Caster was only able to go to .5º but I honestly couldn't tell the difference in driving from stock. Except it's 10-15% stiffer which I like

Been stalking these threads and finally pulled the trigger: Billstein 5100 all four, 1.75" setting, Dobinson's 599 rear springs for 1" rear lift and Falken Wildpeak AT3W @ 285/70r17. It looks much better in person than in pictures. I am totally happy with this set of upgrades, but only one day of driving so far.

Looks great! Any rub? I'm going the same hight as you in the front and back but one tire size down. (275) The rims I got are a bit wider though. The FN f(x) which are similar to the Pro's but lighter.

Looks awesome! I have the 5100's set at 1.75" and went with 265BFG's but kind of regret not going bigger. Oh well, maybe once it needs new shoes again.

Bilstein Questions Again..

Hi guys,,
Just bought Toyota and it is a 2017 TRD Offroad,,Love it so far and my wants are ever growing.lol..However I hear the 5100 is the way to go,but then I issues of dash lighting up and sensors going crazy..I would like to level out for now and eventually get some sliders and beefier skids..What are the best setups people are running for the level without the dash looking like Christmas..Thanks

I don't have any lights.......these mods are not an issue to the computer or effect the driveability. Mine drives much nicer!

How much actual lift did the dobinson 599's give you? Got any fender to hub measurements?

Alright I will order the 5100 for all corners and I guess the 1.5 daystar kit for rear.. unless you can thing of better springs to use..I hear t13 a lot that can be used with the bilsteins..Thank you for the insight. Will post pics later

The t13 springs are rated at 1.5" and would be better then a spacer. Also dobinson has several options from .75-2" of rear lift springs.

I've heard really good reviews of the Falken Wildpeaks. I couldn't pass up Kumho A/T's at $500 for 4. I went with virtually the same setup except for OME springs to get my lift.

I put the 5100's all the way around with the front setting at 1.75. It set my 2016 perfectly level. Took about 4 hours by myself on the install of all 4 shocks.

SR5 Trd off road or TRD pro? With KDSS? How is the ride, I am worried it will be too stiff at 1.75.

Any Pictures?

Are you guys paying for installation, or do you install the 5100's yourself? Friend of mine just had 5100's installed on his '14 SR5 and they charged him almost $500 in labor, AND they managed to pinch his ABS in the process.

I'm debating whether I'm going to take it to a shop for install, or get some automotively-inclined friends to help me out.

These two links show how it's done. These tutorial videos cover installation on the Tacoma but it's the exact same procedure on the 5th gen 4Runner. If you have some mechanical ability, some tools, jack and jack stands, then the install is very straight forward and fairly easy....just take your time.
