Another Bilstein 5100 question

From reading the thread it sounds like like ".85 front, no lift rear" using 5100s will result it a stock ride height and rake? Is this correct? If I want to keep a fairly stock height, but would be ok with a small change (under a 1"), as long as the rake stayed the same would I be better off using the 4600 series instead of the 5100s? Other than the height adjustment is there any difference in feel?

This is on a 2005 V6 4Runner with stock wheels and tires.

Also what is the difference between the 24-239370 and 24-196499 front shocks? Is one for 4th gens and the other for 5th gens or is it just a ride height difference?

I'm a new 2016 owner and I've been doing a lot of reading on this topic. It seems the general consensus is (please correct me if I'm wrong)

for Bilstein 5100's all around:

.85 front, no lift rear

1.75 front, 1" spacer in rear

2.5 front, 1.5" spacer in rear

How high you want to go is your choice, but these are what people are using for the most part. I personally am considering 2.5/1.5 with 275/70/17 and Spidertrax spacers. I'm anticipating some rubbing.

The .85 setting raises the front just under an inch. This setting is used to raise the front and level the vehicle. It will not result in the stock rake. If you like the stock rake and don't want to lift, why not leave it alone?

I want to upgrade the shocks to Bilsteins, my stock shocks need to be replaced. Since everyone seems to be using the 5100s, even people with minor upgrades, I am assuming they are better than the 4600s for reasons other than just ride height.

I replaced because one of mine originals was blown. The price difference wasn't enough for me to choose the 4600's over the 5100's.
I don't really feel much improvement at all since I switched to 5100's at stock height. I'll be raising to .85" in the near future. I bought the 10mm OME spacers for the rear just in case but I really doubt I'll be using them at this time. Not exactly an answer to your question.

Do I need to take anything into consideration if my 4runner has a third row if I plan to add Bilstein 5100?

No, thats not enough weight to make a difference. Start adding sliders, drawer systems and a swing out rear bumper then worry about heavier springs.

Excuse the newb question, do you have to put the Bilstein's in the back?

You don't have to, rear Bilsteins don't effect ride height. I just opted to match the ride quality with the front because I'm a bit OCD like that. I could have easily gotten away with just adding in the coil spacer and ended up with same ride height with the factory struts.

I agree with that, however, from what I know, 5100 Bilstein have longer travel (1-2 inches longer..?) vs stock shocks (that applies to front and rear shocks), so if you install taller springs or add spacers, but leave stock shocks in place, you probably will be limiting those stock shocks more often than you want it… they still will work, but their longevity will be shorten and you probably will be haring\feeling a thump every time they will be extended all the way on a sudden drop.

Please correct me if I am off on above thought.

Guidance

Hello Guys,

Here's my current setup:

Fronts 5100's set at lowest setting with OME 884 springs

Rear 5100's with Icon springs

Leans too much and I bought this 10mm OME spacer (see best OME spacer pic ever) to remedy.

Am I on the right track to take care of the lean?

Also what is the safest was to add a little more height in the front?

I understand adjusting the shocks up is possible but not recommended per Bilstein. Would there be another way without causing additional wear and tear on the other parts? Note - I am adding UCA's.

Any advice and time taken is appreciated,
Thanks,
Steve

I really like the height of the 5100 on all for corners with the fronts set at 1.75 and having a 1 inch cornfed spacer in the rear. But I would rather set the 5100 at 0 and not use a spacer and use springs instead to achieve this look. I'm in a 2018 SR5 with 275s on TRD pros. Can any recommend what springs to pair with the 5100 to this height. Pics would be helpful also. :thanks:

I'll try to post pics later, but I just added the Toytec Eibach springs for 1.5" of lift and set my 5100s at .85. It came out perfect at about 2.5" total lift. Enough to look good, give more travel, and don't need new UCAs. I'm going to add some Dobinson springs to the rear to net 1.5" of lift. Right now I have 1.5" spacers and airbags. The airbags make it a super stiff ride and I don't get as much travel as I would with the longer springs.

Used 5th gen with bilsteins

Hi guys. So I stumbled across this in my search for a used 4runner. It has 5100's all around. Can anyone advise how much of a lift you think it has? How would I know if he replaced the springs and if they're the hd versions? I want to put 285/70/17's on, but there doesn't seem to be much room between the uca and the current 265 tire. So I'd imagine I'd need new uca's. I was going to buy a base one and put the lift and new tires on afterwards, but if the price is right, this one might tickle my fancy, just not sure if I should trust if the work was done properly (dealership doesn't know who did it. I might have a mechanic look at it).

.85 maybe....it honestly looks about like stock ride height.

That seems like a great budget friendly 2.5" lift while doing it the right way. Patiently awaiting pictures of your setup.

New 5100s

Just ordered my set of Bilstein's from Total Automotive Performance... got the set of 4 for $360.00 (all-in)...$25.00 bucks cheaper than Amazon and faster shipping it seems as well...

Gonna do the .85 level and then add stock size KO2's. Just couldn't talk myself into the 275s cause its my DD...and I crawl over zero rocks.
