Another Bilstein 5100 question

Was a FJ owner for over 10 years now a 4runner owner.
I measured my 4runner as I did on my 4runner and the difference between the front and the back is as follows:
LF 29.50 RF 29.25
LR 31.25 RR 31.25
Seems like all these Toyota trucks built in Japan have the driver side lean.
I know the reason is because of the driver on left side, battery and the fuel tank on the same side.
As I did on my FJ I installed 5100 at .85 and added a 1/4" spacer to only the driver side to solve the lean.
Has anyone put in only one spacer on there 4runner as we all FJ owners did?
I am about to get 5100 and set them at .85 and add a 3/8" spacer on the driver side and 1/4" spacer on the passenger side.
By my calculations I will get rid of the lean and get me rake within .5 inch.

Looks like your LF measurement is actually higher (29.50 vs 29.25 on RF), so wouldn't that account for the lean once you're in the vehicle?

Also, how severe is the "lean" everyone is referring to? I have never noticed a lean at all, granted I haven't changed suspension. If I haven't noticed it now then I doubt I will notice it then, especially once the nose comes up a little bit with the front Bilstein 5100's I'm putting in.
 
Running 5100/wheelers front and back with front set to 0, and spacer driver side. I’m adding the Coastal OR front bumper and winch that will add a couple hundred pounds. I know this set up with the Wheelers springs is already on the stiff side, but was wondering how much if any drop or ride difference in the front I will see? I’m eventually going Kings when the 5100 crap out on me.

Yes I just mixed up the front measurement. The left front is .25" lower than the right front. So the different from front to back rake is Left side 1.75" and Right side is 2.00". As I did on my FJ is to add a 1/4" spacer on the left front to make up the difference on the lean.

Ah, okay! I'm tracking now. Thought that's what you might've meant.

That fixed it? No additional lean now? Also, what causes the truck to lean?

Lean is caused by Battery, Driver and Gas Tank all on the same side just like the FJ. I will be adding Bilstein 5100 set at 2nd notch from the bottom giving me 0.85" of a lift then adding a 3/8" spacer on left from and 1/4" spacer on the right side. This will make up the 1/4" difference between the RF and LF. With my calculations I should have a 1/2" rake from front to back.
 
The lean is real. I wish I would have read more into this before my installation. My rig noticeably leans to the driver’s side. I’m at 2.5F/1.5R. I’ll get around to fixing it at some point but pulling the suspension down again just doesn’t sound like fun to me right now.

For anyone pondering this setup, I just had 5100s installed on all 4 corners. Fronts set to 1.75". Daystar 1.5" spacers in rear. Stock coils, stock UCAs. Stock garbage Dunlops. Maintains the slight forward rake that I like. Far less roll and dive, a bit less nautical body motions on undulating pavement. Small bumps and gaps in the road surface come through more, creating a more tactile and nervous background ride quality, but the larger hits like potholes and railroad crossings are swallowed nicely. It feels more confident on winding roads, and there's less slop in the body motions.

Liking it all, except...there's some bump-steer and a slight nervousness to the steering now. I thought I did enough research, but just now became caster-woke. Despite the modest 1.75" front lift, the stock UCAs may be maxed out at 1 degree caster. Shop's going to look at it next week. So yes, while the general consensus seems to be that lifts under 3" probably don't need aftermarket UCAs, you may want them even for a 1.75" lift.

The added ground clearance from this lift is a solid 2 inches. I took some before & after measurements:

Before, After
Lower front control arms, midpoint: 8.75”, 9.5”
Frame cross member under front skidplate: 9”, 11”
Frame rail under front doors, L/R: 13”/13”, 15”/15.3”
Diagonal frame brace under front doors, L/R: 9”/9.25”, 11.25”/11.4”
Trailer hitch: 17.25”, 19.5”
Spare Tire: 11”, 13”

I’m at 2.5/1.5 on stock coils and stock UCAs. I chose stock coils simply because I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do and this is my first foray into off roading. I always had plans to upgrade coils but still don’t have a need or desire to as of yet. The ride is great on road and performance has exceeded expectations off road.

I had noticeable bump steer before I got it aligned. Since then, all has been great. I’ve been using this setup for several years now without a single complaint and my stock UCAs have been just fine for me. I had plans to upgrade them but I simple don’t have a need to. Every rig is different so it’ll be interesting to see your alignment stats when you get them.

Hey everyone long story short mechanic won’t put 1” spacers in rear even with bilstein 5100’s in rear. He wants to put 1” bilstein coils in rear.

The stance with 1” spacers in back is awesome and I want to replicate that. After searing online, it seems the coils he is talking about are rated for 1-1.5” lift in rear. Could produce too much of a nose dive rake.

Any thoughts????

I can always weigh down my trunk with cases of water right???
 
That’s ridiculous. Find a new mechanic.

A TON of people run a spacer with no issue. I’m running a 1.5” spacer and off road more than anyone I know. Guess what? Not a single issue. Are coils better? Sure. Are they necessary? That’s up to you and you alone based on your desires, needs and budget. Don’t be bullied into a decision. Sounds like he wants you to order through him too so he gets a piece of that pie as well.

YellowSnow, I’ve seen your post a few times when scouring this thread. About to go same setup with 5100/set0 & Wheelers T1/T13, plus adjusting for lean. Question: do you still like this setup? Stiff?
Bigger question: what size tires you running in those pics? I’m really debating 275vs285.

Is anyone running Bilstein 5100 at max height for the front with stock springs and Bilstein 5100 rear with toytec super flex 2” rear coils and stock UCAs? I currently have The set up above and I’m changing the daystar spacer in the rear for toytec rear coil 2”. Anyone have free back for the look or final lift height? Also will I have rake? Trying to stay level

Whatsup guys,

New to the threads. I need some advice from you guys please. I may have missed it, but could not find an answer to my question. I have a 2016 SR5 and looking to lift it. The following observations have been made.

1. .85 front and stock rear is not level enough of a look for me.

2. 1.75 front and stock back, from reading, seems like I may get reverse rake which I REALLY do not like.

3. Has anyone done a 1.75 front with either a .5 or a .75 rear spacer? Seems like that may be a sweet spot for me. Any side view pictures/advice? Trying to get as level as I possibly can.

You put 5100's set at 2.5 in front with nothing in rear no way will that be level.Here is mine 5100 all the way around front set at 1.75 and 3/4 cornfed spacer in rear.Even at 1.75 with nothing in the rear the front sat higher than rear.

That's an awesome build. What size are your grabbers? 265?

He guys this is my 2018 Off road. 5100's on all 4 corners with front set to 1.75. Rear is Dobinson C59-599 that gives a 1 inch lift. Rides so much better than stock and rides very similar to when the 5100's were set at .85 with stock rear. Zero rubbing so far with the 33 ridge grapplers . And holy cow the ridge grapplers are about 1/10 as loud as the 265 duratracs they replaced

Looks good.

What was your reasoning to go with a spring in the rear over a spacer?

I assume a lift in the rear with a spring should give you more rear travel but your front is still running the stock spring/travel right?
