Another Shrockworks how long thread

I think its worth the wait, they make some great products.

I have no problem waiting the 12 weeks for mine! A bumper that is built by hand and not off a stamp factory in China is worth the wait.
Quality counts and takes time and a small owner run business that takes pride in the product that leaves their door sometimes has to stop the line to fix a problem instead of send out sloppy work. So be it.
A quality product is what i am paying for and what i expect, i dont mind waiting for it to be right.

I just ordered sliders from Rocky Road based on all the reviews I have read (of ship times amongst other things), so there's a vote.

Having said that I intend to order the winch bumper from Shrock sometime in the near future. I expect it to take a long time to ship, and hopefully by then they will be advertising correct ship times. I basically don't care if it takes 6 months to build but i need to know that up front.

I'm seeing a disconnect in the discussion here. A comment on misleading ship times is not a comment on product quality. I dont think anyone is questioning that Shrock makes great products, the issue here seems to be people feeling misled. That seems like a valid complaint.

I too am going to order the Rocky Road Sliders....but for other reasons. I have a limited and their supersliders dont require me to cut any rocker panels, unlike everyone else out there so far. Shrockworks by far has made the best looking bumper I've seen. Definitely not impressed by the other big manufacturers (demello, ARB). I hopped in on the group by for this first production run of bumpers. We will see when I get it. Based on that, depends on if I buy anything else.

I ordered the SW rock sliders a few weeks ago. I knew from all the reviews that it will take a long time. I placed the order online and was charged the full amount up front. They have not ever provided any time estimate for delivery. I don't mind that it may take 12-15 weeks to get a good hand made product, but it is a bit sketchy to ask for 100% of the money up front for a job that takes this long. They might do better to say 50% up front to purchase long lead material and the other 50% just prior to shipping. Most companies don't hold your purchase money for months before providing a product. That said, I understood this up front from reading other great reviews on this forum and knew what I was getting into. Can't wait to try out the sliders!

I put in an order for the front bumper and sliders from SW through their website, but I selected the option to call regarding payment. They were up front with me about the long waiting period and they took about 50% for deposit on my order. I am looking forward to receiving the best currently-available bumper and sliders for my vehicle and I am willing to wait a while for them.

Cheers,
Greg

yeah, I actually had a few reasons to go with RR also
-Possibly heavier steel?
-angled front and rear, which makes them 'slide' better... also look cool
-no having to remove pieces (from what I understand you don't actually have to cut anything with the Shrock kit, just remove it)
-better ship times.

It cost a lot more money to buy small quantities of materials, so it is not unreasonable to wait until you have several orders to buy materials.

I have a hard time believing they would intentionally mislead anyone.

Looks like they need to change the way they do business, starting with giving an accurate time frame for production and shipment. Based on the number of complaints about SW's timing over the past 2 years here 'they' (being the one who speaks to customers) ARE intentionally misleading customers. I understand the 'quantity discount' issue but there IS a way around it, GASP! Let people know it will be 10-12 weeks for shipment....BUT...if they want a RUSH shipment (i.e. 3-4 weeks) there will be an additional charge of $xxx.xx. A LOT of companies do this. The extra charge can go to cover materials/overtime needed to complete the order in the promised time. This way you can keep EVERYONE happy~

Shockworks is listening but they dont care. Why would they, everybody keeps buying there stuff.

Until they really see business suffer, nothing will change. The reason why this is happening is because they are too busy. They would probably welcome less orders!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think "don't care" is accurate. But being too busy due to demand is probably very accurate.

I am in a manufacturing field (military small arms). High demand utterly screws with production and delivery schedules. You forecast production based on past demand with no idea whether the demand will increase, decrease, or remain flat. You order material from suppliers, of which steel and titanium are difficult to come by sometimes. You hope all the material you get from your supplier is in spec and suitable for use in your manufacturing operation and that you don't have to reject it and wait for new material.

When demand suddenly increases you struggle with whether to hire more people which you will have to train (slowing production) and hope demand doesn't drop off and you have to lay them off. So you grin and bear it with the staff and equipment that you have.

Demand is so high you can barely keep track of all the orders. One or two drop through the cracks. It happens. Somebody is mad because of the poor customer service. You didn't mean to do it. You'd like to please everyone but you just don't have the physical capacity to do it.

As you get a bit further behind, more people start calling and asking where their stuff is. It's really hard to weld sliders or bumpers with a phone in your hand. If people would just stop calling you could actually get some work done. But if you don't answer the phone those same people will be all over the internet asking, "Has anyone heard anything from XYZ company? Are they out of business?" The internet is brutal! The customers just don't understand... and often they won't even give you the courtesy of addressing their customer service issue with a phone call first before posting all over the net for the world to read. And frankly, some of their demands are just plain unreasonable - but there is no convincing them of that. This isn't Amazon.com. I don't have 10 warehouses throughout the country stocked to the rafters with every conceivable product under the sun. That guy that just bought the sliders for his '03 4Runner doesn't understand that you sold the last set yesterday, you'll have to build more and for the next three weeks you're working on 05+ Tacoma front bumpers to fill orders. It is going to be awhile until you build another batch of those sliders and at the moment you don't even know when or where they'll fit into your production schedule.

You answer the phone and try to give them an estimate of when their product will ship, hoping that your estimate is at least close. Darn it if your local outsourced powder coating guy isn't backed up and behind schedule too. It sucks to have to rely on other people to keep your business running but you're just not quite big enough to invest in an in-house powder coating setup when you really need to hire another welder and buy more material.

Meanwhile a handful of people keep calling asking when you're going to finish the prototype front bumper for the 2012 redesigned "whatever". Not to mention that one guy that wants a custom rear swing away tire carrier for his '89 Mitsubishi Montero and if you'd just build them as a full production item he knows they'd sell well because him and everyone else would want one - he knows the 4x4 market so well afterall.

The life of a small to medium manufacturer...

Expect to wait for high quality and high demand items and the internet and forums like this hold a lot of the blame. You get a good, capable local manufacturing shop like Shrockworks or CBI Off Road that does some great work for a couple guys in their area. They post it to the internet and suddenly these shops become nationally known in short order for creative, innovative, quality equipment and it's all they can do to keep their head above water to meet the sudden demand.

Being in the field, I've learned to be much more patient because I know what they are going through as manufacturers.

Damn, I ordered my Sliders on Aug 3rd, 3 days after I bought my runner. I'm really hoping I get them in the 6-8 weeks that I was told.

BUT you will have to bend the tube, add shims, and move XREAS as stated on their website.

I think the funniest thing about this whole thread is that Shockworks has not made a comment at all!!!!!

You think the fellas over there would at least have the balls to stick up for themselves and say something about it, apologize to you all, or something.

We all know they are on the forum. Shockworks, let all these people know what is going on, apologize for misleading them on delivery dates and set the record straight. You would be amazed how far honesty and a simple apology can actually go!!!!!

Just my 2 cents.....and we all know that is not worth a damn thing :)

Finally--received a notice from UPS the sliders have shipped!! (13 weeks and a day from ordering.) It's interesting the website is now guaranteeing 12 weeks for the 5th gen bumper. When I called to check on my status last week and was told it would probably ship this week (and it did--I'll give them credit for that) I asked them if they could guarantee it would ship this week. The reply: "whaddya mean guarantee?"

Anyway it's on the way. Won't say never again but...

The rest of the pieces are here or on the way--OW 2.5" LR UCA's Budbuilt winch mount and armor, Kodiak dual battery system and a Warn 9.5xp. So the next post is the pics when it all comes together.

Exactly what I was gonna say....imo everyone that is frustrated or being lied to should call there credit card company and cancel/dispute their charges. I don't care how nice there product is, by paying and waiting you are empowering their bad CS and as a result, this is the card being dealt to all customers. Find someone else to make them!

So I thought I was the one that was immune to the late delivery bug and excuses everyone has been receiving from Shrockworks. (Insert multiple emoticons of choice here). Well, I've been infected (...more emoticons).

With some hesitation, I wrote to check in on the status of the order I placed online earlier this month. Rather than lament the details of the correspondence, (..."I see the charge, ...but I don't have your order?", ok, here it is...:wtf:) I would suggest Shrockworks discontinue the policy of providing excuses. They're ridiculous, transparent and laughable.

In all honesty, I would suggest Shrockworks simply offer a flat 90 day lead time. They would continue to maintain their product mystique and we could continue to *****.

Are you listening to us ARB?

Is it really a 90 day wait? They operate right up the freeway from me so I actually called them today about their sliders. I was hoping to swing by and just pick them up but they are on an order only basis. The guy told me 6-8 weeks.

I received the same lead time and no concession for the three weeks that have passed so far since I placed my order. 90 is only my suggestion.

I think everyone that ever orders anything from them knows going in that it is going to take some time to get the product. I bought sliders on May 2 not expecting to receive them until November, in fact I was hoping I wouldnt get them until at the earliest September.

Do you know how long it takes to hand build a Rolls Royce? The Shrockworks products are awesome. I know, I know it's just welding, but these things are awesome. It takes time to build this stuff, and this is a small compnay. Compare to the others out there that might get sliders to you in a couple of days and why you prefer the Shrockworks over the rest of them....it's because they are better. They are better built, better engineered, and more thought and care goes into their construction.

Put on your Big Boy panties and be glad that companies, like Shrockworks, Gobi, and so many others that support us are out there.

Thanks, soap box kicked away!!!:dammit: :bigok:

Repeatan!!!
