Any Reason Not to Consider a CPO Lexus GX460 If a Good TE4R Deal Can't Be Made?

I'm looking at a couple of the GX models today and wanted to get you guys' opinions on how the two stack up. I won't be doing any intense off roading but I'm torn because I strongly prefer the exterior looks of the trail edition to the GX. It is the other way around for the interiors though.

apples to ranges if you ask me. I would get the TE and just add leather to it.....

if you want to look like a woman driving down the road get the GX!

Good luck with your decision

I can't get the out the door deal I want on the trail but can get OTD at $45k on a GX. May just do that and improve the looks with a set of Duratracs.

Don't let some of these haters fool you. The 4runner is a awesome car but a Lexus go is leagues ahead of it.

I looked at the GX pretty hard after deciding I wanted more from the SR5. I ended up choosing a limited because there were a few issues that bugged me about the Lexus. It's a great vehicle that handles and rides well, but I didn't care for the barn door and the window doesn't roll down. I like to throw my dog in the back and get going.

If you're going with a GX, take a look at some trail rims on it. you may need to modify the center caps, but I can't imagine it would be too difficult.

Apples-to-oranges. I'd think the LE is a more logical comparison.

And, just how OLD is the CPO GX? Regardless, the dealer will have a TON of margin built into that one for sure.

I looked at the GX also. Hated the barn door and the fixed rear glass. My wife's '08 CRV had that stupid barn door and it's a real PITA. As soon as the '10 CRV came out with a liftgate I traded.

Interesting tho, your only concerns seems to be with "looks" --- eg exterior "look" of TE ve the interior "look" of the GX. Totally subjective.

Okay -
First you wanted a TE and apparently you cannot make a deal because you are underwater on your trade and cannot afford to make the deal on a 40K vehicle.
Next you wanted to finance different tires as part of the deal which would be another terrible move financially. Cheapest way: Sell the original set and buy new ones on sale.
Now you want to get an even MORE expensive vehicle!

What is the deal? Either keep what you got long enough to get to even or bite the bullet and lose money (again) and get what you want. A GX is a great vehicle but that compared to a TE is not in the same class. I know what you are trying to do and that is find a quick fix to get well financially. You stand a better chance of that looking to buy something other than a Toyota because they hold their value so well. Good luck and now you should just do something instead of being all over the map.

I sure love my TE, but I would not mind a GX either! I'd say go with the TE if you're going to be off roading. If not, go with the GX - they are nice!

All of this assumes you can easily afford either vehicle...

Good luck with your choice!

I agree. I'm sure it's plenty capable; but it just doesn't seem right to take a GX off-roading. It's too pretty.

I'm only under water on my car if I trade it. Since I save almost all of the sales tax, it negates most of the loss of trading it and all of the headache of selling it myself. I do well financially and live modestly (the selling price of the house I just bought is less than my annual income).

I am a car nut who has owned lots of nice cars (my trade is a 451 hp German sedan). I originally toyed with a change of car to save money (gas, insurance and/or payment). I didn't expect to be as underwhelmed by the interior of the TE given the price and the great exterior. So once I was in buying mode, I expanded my search to similar vehicles in the same price range with similar capabilities (the CPO GX).

Ok, sounds logical. So what "exactly" underwhelmed you about the interior of the TE? Can it be changed? Or, can you live with it, for about 10K+ difference?

All of the materials seemed pretty cheap on the TE inside. I am coming from a pretty nice car now but it only seemed like a smidge up from a much less costly Nissan Xterra off road model that was my 'recession escape vehicle' a couple years ago.

They may get me out the door for $45k on a cpo GX with 20k miles and so far nobody has done better on a new TE 4Runner. They would need to come down $3k to match the deals folks in here have gotten on their TE's.

Not a bad deal for a low-mile GX. Keep in mind the Lexus CPO warranty isn't comparable to a new car warranty. Not that you'll likely need it, being a Toyota.

So, what are your plans for the truck? That should dictate your choice more than anything. I personally like having my 4runner because it's nice, but not so nice that I'm afraid to get it dirty, modify it, take it off-road, cut on it with a dremel tool, etc.

I've been on online forums for 10 years and... what the hell is a CPO???

And... you are comparing two different classes of trucks, how do you not expect the interiors to be of differing quality?

If you’re expecting the TE to be a luxury car you'll be very disappointed. The 4runner TE is a truck - It rides like a truck, performs like a truck and handles like a truck. It's intended market is people who want to take their vehicle beyond the pavement, whereas the GX is intended for drivers that want the bells and whistles as well as a vehicle they can feel safe in adverse weather conditions.

Just a bit of advice - A car is a depreciating asset. The best way to save money on a vehicle is to find one you really like and keep it as long as possible.
