Any reviews of the new Bilstein 6112's?

Read through this entire thread but can anyone esp total automotive confirm what is the lowest lift the 6112s will have on a 5th gen 4Runner. I like the lift of the .85 setting on the 5100s but prefer the 6112s

I wont call you out specifically, but some of you really know how to chase a troll down the rabbit hole here.

Yes, its $100 including hardware to have the coil-overs come shipped assembled. If you can do it yourself and you've got all day, or it only takes 10 minutes, well good for you. I didn't have the time, the tools or quite frankly the desire to **** with it, and $100 for the pair (parts and all) was a good deal IMHO.

Someone asked what size tires I'm running; answer is 285/65r18. I also have spidertraxx 1.25 wheel spacers (commence the forum trolls... I can hear you already).

I have a 2008 Limited 4x4. Thankfully I was able to find one without the bloody XREAS so I avoided that nightmare bs.

Still extremely happy with the 6112's in the front. Put just over 10k miles on them and they still blow me away. The 5100's in the rear are still good too but I'll prob upgrade those to 6112's at some point too.

I am in the same boat right now... but after 20k miles I am pretty done with my 5100 as I do off-road quite a bit.

Problem is there isn't really a 6112 rear... and the 5160 is what they say to pair with isn't really that great either, it doesn't perform like a 6112 as its still a small diameter shock.

I am basically ready to pull the trigger on a 2.5" King or ICON shock at this point. I wish they made a rear 6112 without a remote rez for the rear... it would literally be perfect and affordable at the same time.

I'll be interested to hear what you eventually do. I also want the 6112's in front, but need (OK, want) something more reliable in the rear, not that I'll be spending all that much time off road, but when I do, don't want to worry about it.

Anyone know if there is a difference in diameter between the 5th gen 5160s that are on the TRD Pro and the 5160s for 4th gens? If there is I wonder if all that needs to be changed is the upper bushings to fit our 4th gens.

Maybe I missed it but Im not seeing any info for the clip location height adjustments for the v8s. Hope this makes sense.

I have an '03 V8 4x4 Sport. I had the oroiginal XREAS with 192k, and may have had some sag from the original stock height. I have driven about 1000 miles since installing my 6112s. I was aiming for a 3/2 lift. I purchased them from Amazon and got the first gen version with the 5 rings. I put them on the second from the top, (2" setting). In the rear I installed Toytec Superflex (2") coils and 5100s. My before and after measurements are

front +2.8"
rear +1.9"

I'm very happy with the performance. Bumps were harsh before the upgrade, smooth now, and the lift is about exactly what I wanted.

I'll do a full writeup on my 6112s+Icon 2.0" installation later but I wanted the least amount of lift possible (I know goes against this crowd) so I followed Bilstein's instructions by using the #3 slot up from bottom for drivers and #1 slot up from bottom for the passenger. The lift is only 24 hours old but so far I got exactly 2" of lift on both front sides. This reduced the caster angle from 2.6º to 1.6º. I haven't driven it on the hwy yet as I got the alignment done this morning. It does wander a tad more than before but I'll know better on my drive home.

It goes w/o saying, spend the money for a Firestone Lifetime Alignment. They go on sale occasionally so keep checking their website. It'll pay for itself after the first alignment!

Looking forward to hear your review.

How can you get rid of wandering, I feel like my 4runner already wanders and it's stock.

Wandering is usually due to several things: worn bushings front or rear/tie rod ends/uneven tire wear/etc. In my case, the vehicle drove great with a caster of 2.6º but with 1.6º, I can feel it wanting to wander.

Caster can be explained using bicycles. A MTB has low caster and is very twitchy. But a road bike has more caster (forks are curved, more rake) so it's less twitchy.

I'll keep studying my vehicle's manners and make sure I look at all possibilities before I mess with the UCA. I do know for a fact that the UCA bushings are shot as well as all of my rear control arms and panhard rod bushings. This is to be expected with 320xxx miles on the odo.

If your stock 4runner is already wandering, I'd address that first and foremost. Chances are you have worn out items that should be addressed before lifting it and adding more variables into the mix!

Exactly ... I've been holding out hope for a 6112'esque rear shock. But, if Billy doesn't want to deliver, I'll go a different route; I am also considering KING as the alternative. I'm still a good ways from that decision though.

So I was about to pull the trigger on 5100/fj setup but then I saw this thread and now I'm back to ground 0 :noidea:

First, I'm hoping that someone can expand a bit on their experiences between the 5100/fj and the 6112. I realize this is subjective and has already been touched on a bit but I'm still hoping to hear a bit more about this.

Also, if I went with the 6112 I would run it at the second setting (.5?), and I would probably run 5100 or 5160 in the back with 2" icon or 2" superflex.

I know that in theory set up shouldnt run into alignment issues but I'm just wondering how peoples trucks were ACTUALLY adjusting with this set up and whether or not they felt like new UCAs were necessary or a good idea. I'm not trying to cut corners.

TIA for any info!

The Bilstein 6112/5160 is a great off-road build option and has been well received in the FJ community.

One of the things some of our Team Members noticed immediately, was no nose dive when coming to
a stop, while still gliding over bumps and rocks smoothly.

If you are looking to take your FJ off-road, 6112's over 5100's is the choice.

The OEM (Toyota) springs are rated for 580 lb/in and the 6112 comes with 600 lb/in. So, you'll be getting a tiny bit of lift naturally. However, you are going to replace the rear springs or not? The springs from Wheeler of road net about 1.5" lift, which I think is the shortest amount of lift.

Is this true? The 6112 springs are only 3% stiffer than stock? Supposedly the FJ springs are 5% stiffer, so if I "upgrade" from my 5100/FJ lift, I'm actually getting a SOFTER spring rate???

I've had my lift for 60 or 70,000 miles, and I don't know how many miles the springs had beforehand, and I'm definitely seeing some sagging with my skids, sliders, sleeping platform, etc. I'm looking for something to give me back my lift and maybe even add a bumper and winch too some time in the future (and, of course, I'm trying not to spend a ton of money at the moment).

this automatically may push you out of the 6112s due to the softer spring rate. I don't know if anyone has stuffed a higher rated springs into the 6112s so that could be an option based on real time feedback. When I install the hidden winch, I'll move up to the next notch on the 6112s but I have no desire for a front or rear bumper.

Anyone have the extended and collapsed measurements for the 6112's? I see the Tacoma version has the following, but I have not been able to find the 4Runner numbers...
6112
collapsed = 17.67
extended = 22.5
travel = 4.83
