I've had back problems since the mid 90's. it's been a battle since then. Some days bad. Others worse.
Anyone else thinks the seats, SR-5, are uncomfortable to the point you can't sit still and get comfortable

I have 2 compression fractures in my lower back from an old ('94?) Mt. Bike injury. I've also soldiered through a few herniated disks.

As long as I stay relatively active and sleep on my back it doesn't bother me too much these days. Man do I remember the constant pain though! I feel for ya Anthony.

I find the factory leather seats in my SR5 are very comfortable for me, especially on longer trips.

2 weeks ago I sprained ligaments in my back, it hurt to just sit there, but I had to drive for a job out of town. I found that if I inflated the lubar support all the way it helped out a bunch. getting over it now, but I feel for ya...it is the type of pain that will shut you down for sure.

Personally I dont have back issues, my father on the other hand does. I cant really speak from my experience but I can from his.

He had 2 slipped discs which he had surgery for and on and off back pains in general, prior and post surgery. We had a 4th gen runner and we are now getting a 5th gen. He went for the limited trim for both models. I had asked him why not the SR5, my brother had a 3rd gen SR5 (either 3rd or 2nd i cant remember), my dad told me "NO! Drive then SR5 then go drive the Limited, the SR5 is a much rougher ride and is murder on my back but the Limited is MUCH better"

Im not sure if the seats are much different from the SR5 to the Limited and im speaking mainly about comfort while driving, which i guess can be linked to the comfort of the seat as well?

I plan on test driving an SR5, or maybe my buddys SR5, he was in the middle of purchasing one, maybe then I can have better input.

I've had lower back problems for over 20 years, and find that the more core exercise and walking I do, the less the chance of a flareup.

For driving in my former 3rd Gen T4R and my current Trail Edition, one of the Obus Forme backrests allows me to drive for up to 8 hours without discomfort. I couldn't last 3 hours without the support.

Some of the bigger drugstores and some big box pharmacy departments sell a number of the Obus options, so you can try them out. I think this is the newest model:
Amazon.com: Obus Ultra Forme Lumbar Support Backrest, Small: Health & Personal Care

These pads turn even the crappiest car seats into a supportive one for me. Hope it works for you, if you decide to try it.

I've gone through 2 spinal fusion surgeries leaving me with L3, L4 & L5 as one solid piece held together by mid-evil hardware and bone grafts. The lower bone graft is leaning against my spinal cord which causes lots of un-fun to say the least. I'm disabled according to the state and have a handicap parking permit. So you could say I have issues with my back.

So far the only issues are a very tired back after long drives, especially if I've been bouncing around off road. It took awhile to find the sweet spot with the seat position but I think the firm seats actually help my back. Your mileage may very, every back problem reacts differently to different things.

I have not had any surgeries and neither do I have any back issues. However,I do find the drivers side seat in my LE uncomfortable on long drives. There does not seem to be enough support for the lower back. I just recently ordered a lumbar support pillow from Amazon and am hoping that this will take care of the issue.

Thx for all the responses guys

Yeah, I have sciatica, L-4 , L-5 herniated. So I have to stretch out quite a bit. So I can at least stand up straight. But lately my backs been giving me fits.
I did buy a memory foam seat pad and it seems to work ok. But I just can't seem to get comfortable on the drivers seat . The grand Cherokee I owned ('04) had these soft cushion seats. Very comfortable. Which on my side I kept the seat back at almost 90 degrees. And the seat bottom was flat - no raised thigh nonsense that seems standard on the sr-5. I think that's what's causing my back discomfort.
Been using a heating pad. And a tens (spelling) unit to massage and ease the discomfort.
Sorry for the whining. But it makes me a little unhappy with the truck.

Happy Turkey to everyone here.
And God Bless you all and your families. (It's still ok to say that? I hope.....)

It is more then OK to say that, thank you Anthony and back too ya!

I also agree, my leather seats installed at the port on my SR5 is pretty uncomfortable on long drives. I had seats like these in the distant past and I found out then, bring it to a reputable upholstery shop. They can remove the lower cover and add some foam. Made all the difference in the world, even to the lower back! I will be taking mine in soon. You might want to give that a try. Could help. Be safe.

I have 3 compression fractures...thank God my weight hasn't compounded it...:wink2:

I basically just have my seat mashed into a black throw rug...but it works for me....:hatsoff:

One word : Yoga. I have knee and back problems from 5 years in the infantry, since I've started yoga pain is minimal.
