Anybody Have Their 2014 Trail Edition Wheels Powder Coated

Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone has powder coated a set of 2014 Trail Edition wheels yet?

Planning on having it done to my wife's new TE.

Would love to see some pics

Had the Range Rover Supercharged wheels that the TE is replacing power coated and loved the look.

I'm interested in this as well, considering just the spokes. I may grab a can of plastidip for a $6 test case. If any others have already done this with 2014 TE wheels, I'd love to see a pic too.

I saw a white trail with the stock wheels painted black and I'm 90% sure it was not plastidip. They were dropping their kid at the daycare my kids go to. I didn't get to talk to him but I will say on his white truck the wheels looked awesome.

If I see him I'll ask about them and try to get a pic if no one else replies.

I'm planning on getting new wheels for my new TE and dipping or powder coating the TE wheels for my 4th gen. I'll post some pics when I finally get them done.

These looks nice, has anyone else done this and have additional pics? By this time there must have been others. Been thinking of doing this on my white 2014 TE and would love to see more pics before I decide to paint or replace with black aftermarket wheels.

Well this is an old thread but thought i'd chime in anyways. I just picked up a set of trail edition rims and am planning on painting them. I just recently painted my fj rims and am loving the look and quality. Better than plasti-dipping.

I will post some pictures when I get a chance to paint these in the next couple of weeks.

Spraypainted TE wheels black

I finally got around to painting my rims black. I have previously plastidipped my original 4th Gen rims. Those lasted about a year but the edges had started to peel in a few spots and there was some pitting. Then I took the time and properly painted a set of FJ wheels that I had bought. It was a bit time consuming with the prep work but I have had them for about a year now through summer and the brutal winters up here in a Canada and they look as good as day one. So I finally got myself a set of 5 Trail Edition wheels and found some time last week to paint them. Not sure if it is because of the design of these rims or if I was just trying to do it perfectly but the wheel prep (sanding) took a long time. I sanded one rim the first day, another rim the 2nd day then just sucked it up and sanded the last 3 on the third day.

These are going to be my summer rims so I don’t have any pics yet on the vehicle but I can’t believe how good they look. I looked into powder orating but it was going to cost me $500+ CAD so I went this route. Used about 2 can of Duplicolor Sandable Primer and probably around 4 cans of Duplicolor Wheel Paint in Satin Black. I had one can for each tire but there is a little bit left in each can. I went this route as I found as the van gets empty the spray pattern is not as smooth and the last thing I wanted was a blotchy coat on my last pass.

This second image is quite reflective and they do not actually look this light in person. The third photo is more accurate
