Anyone here have an ICON adjustable panhard bar

Trying to determine how it adjusts. It says it is adjustable on the truck... but I can't find any pictures that are close enough to see anything....

This ability to adjust without removing is appealing to me since I have some axle rub on passenger tuck. Being able to tune it for trail use and then back to road mode would be a nice option.

Loosen the two pinch bolts and turn the hex-shaped adjustment collar next to the spherical rod (heim) end to lengthen or shorten. The other end is fixed with a bushing and obviously does not contribute to the adjustment process. EDIT: I just got one of these in the mail the other day, I could take it out of the box and make a short vid if you like.

The Toytec adjustable track bar seems quite a bit different since it works with Jam nuts, hex bungs and opposite threads on each side so you have to loosen the jam nuts, adjust by turning the bar portion with a wrench(possibly the same size as one used for the jam nuts? that would be nice) and tighten the jam nuts again. Kinda works like your tie-rods I guess.

I'm pretty sure that's the frame mounting pocket pictured above, which would mean that the track bar is mounted backwards. The heim end is supposed to be installed in to the axle mounting pocket as per the instructions, and the numerous pictures I've seen of these things mounted on FJ's and 4Runners.



Here's a picture of mine so you can see the adjustment mechanism:

You'll need a 3/8" torx socket to loosen the pinch bolts, then some sort of peg or an allen key to make the adjustment to the threaded collar. They also recommend to make equal adjustments to the rod end and the adjuster to avoid backing either one out to far and not having proper thread engagement. Based on the amount of threads I'm seeing, I'm guessing there's ~1.5"of safe adjustment on this thing. 2" max.

So main question: Is the adjustment collar accessible when Installed.

If you install it properly, yes. Looks quite easy actually.

$507 after exchange though. And that isn't even factoring in tax, shipping or import charges.
$475 all in for the Icon, and it looks to be a nice solid unit.

For sure. I used ratchet straps to keep everything in place just for good measure but wasn't necessary.

Everything stated here is correct. I just installed mine this past Sunday, super easy install and can quickly be adjusted and put on without a lift. I used a Allen key to make my adjustments to the collar. I did use ratchet straps and blocked my tires so nothing would move but I think it was pointless.

That's not an External Torx bolt head, those are 12-Point bolt heads.

Also, which is better, the collar and pinch bolts or a more tie-rod like application with jam nuts? I always figured the jam nuts to be a better idea?

This bar is actually installed incorrectly per icon the pinch bolts are at the axle and facing up , I just installed this on my 2015 and called icon to confirm. The urethane pushing with the grease fitting goes at the frame the pinch bolt is at the axle and facing up. Call icon

Heh.. right you are. I guess that's why it says nothing about torx bolts in the instructions, eh?.
I've just dealt with Metaltech before and they've always delivered excellent products and service, so I went with this one. Couldn't tell ya which is better, but I'm thinking that a jam nut might be easier to bust loose if it ever got seized.

I can promise you you will hate that icon bar when you have to replace the heim ends EVERY year because they squeak. As well, the heims will transmit FAR more NHV in to the cab than a Johnny joint will

And I might be wrong, but Rokmen designed the bar to be adjustable on the vehicle via reverse thread joints. I'm 95% sure (recalling from memory, I'll have to look here in a little bit) that there is a machined square section in the middle of the bar for a open ended box wrench to extend or collapse the whole thing when the jam nuts are loosened.

My icon track bar has been on for several years on my 2013 and transferred to my 2015 and it's been quiet and trouble-free it has a grease fitting on the urethane and the other end has been no problem. It is adjustable on the truck.

Sorry for the dumb question but Im gonna throw it out there. If the track bar is installed backwards, are there any issues with the truck? Heim joint on the frame instead of the axle?
