Anyone running dedicated snow wheels/tires? Non OEM solution?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and to Toyota. My wife and I picked up a 2010 T4R Limited (Gray, w/ Nav) - so far we've been very happy.

Only problem is getting winter wheels/tires - this topic has been discussed on other threads; some solutions were suggested, but I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried mounting either an aftermarket wheel, or a 4th gen (or FJC) wheel to a 5th gen.

Ideally, I'd like to get a set of 17" rims with Blizzaks from TireRack. However, TireRack hasn't "gotten their hands on a 5th gen" yet to verify the proper sizing. My Toyota dealership quoted me $475/wheel for 5th gen SR5 wheels, and didn't know if 4th gen wheels would fit (same bolt pattern but possibly different offset). The parts manager reluctantly agreed to call Toyota and ask for an informed answer.

Anyone buy aftermarket wheels/tires yet? Any suggestions on wheels that fit would be greatly appreciated!

BTW - apparently, the TPMS sensors need to be reprogrammed each season. That strikes me as odd - not necessary on my 2007 BMW 335i coupe (which has non-OEM winter wheels/tires/sensors from TireRack, which work fine with the BMW system).

Didn't end up doing winter tires yet since the all new tires are performing great even on snow and ice. I know the negatives of this approach, but will do it through this winter.

Here is the thread I started on the subject -- please post your results as this is only an issue for the limited. There should be no reason a 17-inch tire matching the SR5 size wouldn't work without a problem (at least not a reason I can think off).
