Anyone Running Toytec Boss 2.0 Front Aluma Series Coilovers?

I searched around and haven’t found anyone running these coilovers. I’m considering them to replace my 10 year old OME 883s/OME comfort shocks and was wondering how they ride and if anyone has pics of how they sit?..

I have a friend with a 1st gen Tacoma that is running the Aluma series setup. He likes them but has not put much abuse on them yet.

I have them and really like how they handle compared to the stock oem. I haven't put much abuse on them though, as my driving is predominantly highway driving. The little bit of off-roading I've done has been good.

After talking with Toytec over the last couple days, I pulled the trigger on these new coilovers! I think they’re going to be sooo much nicer than my stiff and jarring OME 883s and old OME shocks. I’ve been running OME 861s in the rear with OEM Tokico shocks for a stock Landcruiser for the last 8 or 9 years, and with the extra weight of my CBI bumper/full size spare/Hi-lift back there, as well as a new drawer system/sleeping platform full of tools, and a couple tubs full of camping gear in the back, I think my rear setup is still perfect. The rear is a lot softer when I push down on it than my front, so I just ordered some new OEM LC shocks (for $50 ea.) to replace my old ones back there and I’ll be keeping the worn-in 861s. Can’t wait to not bounce all over the place every time I hit a bump in the road now, haha!

Brian2sun I've personally been running these coilovers since they first came out last may. Hands down the best set of coilovers I've ever had on my rig in the last 10 years. I'm personal friends with the crew down at Toytec, and I can assure you you're gonna love the new set up. Its going to blow your old set up out of the water.
Side note you'll want to swap those 550lbs coils out for 650s with that arb and full skid set up you run. I ran the 550s for the summer before making the switch. The 550s are so soft on the trail though its incredible, but you'll just about max out the preload. The 650s ride just about the same with the weight just less preload.

Thanks everyone for the input. I can’t wait! I know they said aftermarket UCAs are recommended (but not necessarily required) to run these coilovers, but I’m hoping I can run my stock UCAs because $$. Toytec said, I should be able to, but it’s kind of hit and miss from truck to truck if the upper ball joints will bind at full droop or not. I guess I’ll see. Maybe since it’s only a possible issue at full droop, it won’t matter. I see you are all running aftermarket UCAs... anyone try these coilovers 1st with the stock ones?

Yes, I have the 3" kit installed (front and rear), but no body lift.

Checking back in. I put them on the truck a few weeks ago and I LOVE these coilovers! They are soooo great for the price. They’re great for any price, really. I love the 550# spring rate too... perfectly soft and flexy, but handle great on road too. I confirmed after the fact they’re made by Elka for Toytec, which is great also. If you’re on the fence about getting some new coilovers and want an amazing ride on and off road, while staying staying under a grand, I’m convinced there is absolutely no better choice than these new Alumas. Do it.

This is good to hear as i am in the market for a new lift kit and it looks like we have about the same aftermarket weight.

Just curious, is there a reason you didnt get their kit that comes with the rear springs and shocks too?

I’ve had OME 861s in the back for about 10 years and they are the perfect spring for me as far as lift, weight support and flex. They are also nice and broken in. I have a good amount of weight back there between the bumper, tire, drawer system, tools, gear, hi-lift, etc..., so these 861s kill. As far as shocks, I’ve also been running stock OEM Tokico Landcruiser shocks back there for about 10 years and they are inexpensive and they feel great. So basically, I feel like my back suspension is dialed in, so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

On the other hand, I was running 883s and OME shocks up front for 10 years also, and these Alumas are 1000xs nicer in every way. The OME stiff up front was harsh, jarring and just sucked on my truck... especially now that I have felt the difference!

This is exactly my current issue. The 881/906 with OME shocks up are just way to stiff for me. The rear end is a lot smoother after i put 5100s on it though. Based off of our similar situations and how much you are praising the Aluma Coilovers i think i am going to be getting these very soon.

You bet! The difference in ride quality between your OME front set up and the Alumas will be night and day! And as far as lift, they put me almost exactly where my 883s were (they sit 1/8” higher, measured from top of tire to bottom of fender), so I didn’t even bother realigning the truck.

What's the rake like after it settled? Did you max out the front coilovers to 3 inches? I recently put mstuds link all around but I believe the bracket bushings are polyurethane ones from energy suspension.

I wanted to be slightly higher in the rear so the fronts are not maxed out (see attached)

I've been meaning to take measurements I'll try to get some tomorrow.

I'm still running polyurethane up front - but changing the rear endlink bushings to rubber was a huge improvement in comfort.

And thanks - when the color matched bumpers became a thing - I pulled the trigger.

Ya'll's rigs are looking good! I have had Toytec Ultimate coilovers before with their 550lb springs and I thought the ride was perfect. When I installed my life I had a lot of driveline vibration around 60 as well as the all so popular issues with my CV boots busting. Are ya'll having any of these issues or any issues, for that matter? I'd really like to put this setup on my current 4Runner but don't want to push myself into unnecessary issues. Its pretty solid right now.

Did you put in a diff drop kit and get an alignment after installing your lift?
