My 14 TEP had a rather annoying squeak develop on rough roads at 50+ this winter. It took the local dealership 2 weeks to track it down as it would only do it on rough roads, and in temperatures less than 50F. They tightened just about everything they could, even found a body to frame mount that wasn't torqued to spec. In the end it was a fender flare trim piece that had to be replaced. That piece with paint match would have set me back $350 PLUS all the diagnostic labor to find the problem, I don't even want to think what a pain in the pocketbook that would be!
Remember just because your ToyotaCare coverage ends at 25kmi doesn't mean the warranty does. I asked for a print out the last time I was in as to just what warranty coverages were.
Basic - 36k
OEM Battery - 36k
Wheel alignment and balancing - 12k (I've had to get wheels balanced 3 times in past 5kmi not covered)
Emissions Short & Long - 36k
Emissions Specific Components - 80k
Performance Emission Control (Pass I/M program) - 24k
Performance Emission Control Specific Components - 80k
Powertrain & Restraint systems - 60k
Corrosion Perforation - Unlimited (Frame not body)

Do you plan on doing any wheeling?
I had an awesome service advisor awhile back that understood that these 4runners were meant to go off road. I've gone through replacing 2 rear diffs, 1 driveshaft, and a whole transfer case assembly. All of that was covered under Toyota Care, only had to pay a $100 copay. I think it's totally worth it. :roadkill:

I would like the warranty info also. Just totaled out my 2012 when someone read ended my wife and a 2015 limited is on its way!

Had a leaking timing cover on my 2010 TE -- leak found at 99,862 mi and the several thousand dollar repair was done for the cost of the oil change I originally took her in for. Depending on how much you drive (I put 20-25k mi a year), it's definitely worth it in my book.

2010 Trail with KDSS and 75k. Haven't touched the 100k extended warranty. About as sad as I can be for not having been to the dealer for warranty work. Did I mention it has KDSS. That's K - D - S - S!
Lifting the vehicle will not void the warranty as long as you don't go above 5"of lift. I've done pretty much everything I want to do and so far nothing had voided it. The BMC I've unfortunately can't get a answer from my dealership.

If you want it for piece of mind then I totally understand. For me?
Between me, my wife and two kids I have purchased seven new vehicles in the past ten years. All have been Honda, Toyota or Subaru. If I would have purchased any extended warranties on them it would have run me around $10K. With the seven vehicles I have had a few things repaired under warranty like driveshaft clunk etc. My point is I would have spent $10K for nothing. Now if I have a $5K issue come up I will gladly spend it and still have saved $5K! Actually based on my lifetime new car purchases I have saved enough to buy a new 4Runner by NOT buying the extended warranties.
Bottom line: Buy something reliable and durable and don't worry about extended warranty. You come out ahead in the long run IMO.

$10k for extended warranties!? I've never heard of them being that expensive. I think most of us payed around $2k maximum? You must mean $1k?
I was dead set on not getting any of it. Then the "finance guy" broke it down into smaller, cheaper packages aka carte. In his last ditch attempt he offered me all of it for half the price of the original and said he can only offer that twice a month, said it would be "Filipino discount" lol I was like I'm from Guam I'm only a quarter Filipino but thank you anyways. He looked sad.

I am not usually an extended warranty person but I did purchase the 8 year ToyotaCare extended warranty on my 2015 TE for a couple reasons:
1) The finance manager at my dealer was able to get me financed with Toyota for well under the best rate CU Direct had (1.99 vs 3.19). So I was able to bundle in the warranty and still be better off dollar-wise at the end of the day.
2) Adding up all the computers, Entune display, KDSS etc... in my head and potential replacement costs and the fact that I will keep the vehicle at least 10 years it wasn't hard to justify the cost of the warranty. That Entune display goes out I'd bet it's $700 or more.
3) The Platinum warranty I got covers just about everything bumper to bumper save for normal wear items.
Now historically the Toyota's I have owned tell me I will never need it so it is a bit of a gamble, but to me the cost is worth the peace of mind that a lot of expensive components are covered should something fail.

I believe he is stating extending warranties for ALL of the vehicles he has purchased in the last 10 years = $10K.

So far, I've had my transmission replaced once in my TRDP, and an issue with the skid plate where it is going to cost $500 to fix. Although it would have been covered under basic warranty, I'm glad I got the platinum extended warranty. Which was about $2k extra. I'm not big on extended warranties because you usually loose money. Piece of mind knowing bumper to bumper is covered, it's transferable, and if I trade it in, the residual can be used on a new car.
