Anyone use this? [Cordless Impact Wrench]

Revived an old one.....

I use a smaller 1/4” drive impact for engine disassembly. 1/2” drive would be a bit much. Also you take apart almost the entire engine, rig really, with a 10, 12, and 14mm, with the occasional 13 and 17mm.
About the only use for a 1/2” drive would be the 19mm crank bolt and the 21mm running gear drain plugs.
Probably 85% of the bolts you play with on the engine are threaded into aluminum. They aren’t what one would consider tight or hard to break free.

Would be good for chassis work though.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, the 1/2" impact is totally overkill for engine disassembly, but it's the only power drill that I own. I've been breaking them free with a regular ratchet so far, I'm just trying to see if I can safely speed up the process a bit.

Removing fasteners with an impact is generally easier on the components - you are less likely to damage fasteners as long as you use 6-point sockets and get them on the bolt/nut correctly. You do have to be careful on assembly though.

Good to know - thanks!

Electric impacts operate nowhere close to pnuematic ones as proven with many tests on YouTube the most reliable one being the realtool reviews where the guy tests them with a skidmore Wilhelm torque meter. I'm personally not a fan of them I like a good old breaker bar and yes I'm only 24 I'm not like 80 years old or anything lol. However, in your situation personally, I'd grab a milwaukee or makita. I've seen extremely impressive results on torture tests on dewault guns recently and it surprised me because I've never been a dewault guy but now in my mind they have the most powerful electric impact gun.

I get regular tool bargain pop ups on my newsfeed. Home Depot has specials on DeWalt 20v Kits all the time...free battery, free tool, etc. Depends on the deal. Be patient and sign up for their alerts and you can get a smoking deal. I nabbed a huge kit, with bag and two huge batteries for a great price. Don't have to get a huge kit though as they also have deals on just the drill and driver kit too.

Well, since this thread has risen from the dead. I have a pair of Dewalt 20V. The little guy is probably my favorite. For it's size it's very handy.

The big boy, is, well, useless. Has a hard time removing lug nuts. I recently tried to remove spring ubolt nuts and it failed. I got them off with a breaker bar. It won't touch a crank pulley bolt. To suggest it will generate 400 lb-ft is a flat out lie.
