A trip to Vigd
On last Tuesday, me and my nephew decided to take the trucks out for abit of a test drive.
(Actually, he was cruisin' 'round with some chicks in his truck and was drivin' in small water when the truck dies... and calls for my help. I was 1min away from him when he found out what the problem was, and the rig was up and running
so we decided to do something more... )
I suggested a short trail few mins of driving from where we were and we headed there.
I thought this was to be maybe, max 2hours trip... Well, I suppose I was wrong. After driving in heavy snow, sinking through the snow into the water below few times, digging and "swiming" abit in the snow. (that would be me and my "bravery" lol)
And not to mention all the times I had to pull my nephew's rig up! Of course, I could have released more air, but there were locations were there was so many rocks standing up from the snow I was abit afraid of goin' lower then 8psi.
Thankfully, it wasn't really cold, and the night was beautiful.
My nephew was btw, on a 36" 4Runner with ARB in the rear.
And well, that trip, we headed out for the trail around 8pm, I think we were re-airing the tires around 3am. Heh.
'round 6 hours of driving, the trail is btw, around 15km long.

Abit of a slope, there's my 'Runner waitin' for my nephew's runner to get moving. He slipped off the "road" and was tryin' to get back on.
(Too bad I didn't get a pic of that as my camera was behaving strange)
Stuck in water/snow mix.
It took us more than an hour getting out of this!
As all the snow around was soaked with water, we were left with no other choice than climbing on our trucks and in them!
I though' took a dive when I was tryin' to tie in the front of that 4runner. After that I didn't care much wether I was walkin' in water/snow or just on dry land... lol

Heh, you'll take a look at 'em when you come home, even in the first video you can hear my nephew cursing my truck. "damn 44s" (In icelandi though lol)
He's considering SAS (with coils, not them blasted leafs!) and 38s.
That was his biggest problem, the IFS caused him to just "sit" on the ice/snow instead of pushing it further front or over itself like the SFA does.
But, unlike me, he's not in his garage 24/8 ;P

But yeah, he needs a SAS. (probably next autumn we'll start it, this time we know what we are doin' I had no clue what I was goin' into when I SAS'd mine)
And yeah, I'm usually with him when he's doin' anything. I'm the "Yotatechnican" in my friendgroup.
And many more people over here call me and ask me advices when they have problems with theyr 'yota.

Leafs are just so stupid. If coils and links are in the correct setup they are so much better suspension than leafs. For example, the 4link from a 4runner is a very good setup original, BUT if bigger wheels are put under, it is quite awful and boring and quite to much "swaying" on the vehicle.
If however the upper links on the axle are moved c.a. 15cm (for 38") up, it gets alot better.
Anyway... Just came home from the garage, noticed my oil tank started to leak, and then the oil gauge quit working... God knows I'm starting to hate 'yotas... Or just repairing in general. I need a loooong vacation.
Ah well, Langjokull (a glacier c.a. 120km away from here) tomorrow and hope I'll have abit of fun...
*sigh*
Maybe I'll be lucky and roll it over like last time. (I have the tendency of crushing my vehicles by accident exactly one year after purchasing it)

I'm actually limited right now because the tires hit the rear in the body. Gotta attack with a sawzall or a grinder. It has at least 4-6" more.... Note, I haven't changed the rear suspension YET!

A little trip to heaven...

Woke up at 800h and got myself ready, unfortunatly had to add oil to my front diff and relocate everything in my trunk... drink few cups of coffee and smoke a few cigarettes, then finally my friend, Joe "Zombie", arrived and we took a stop at the gas station and filled 'em up with diesel and 90 extra liters (These baby's like to drink).
Headed for the glacier Langj

Wow! I was so excited when I saw there were more pics in this thread! I was not disappointed. That looks like great fun, and the scenery is absolutely breath taking. GREAT pics! I love it! :bigok:
You had to "make a path for the Jeeps?" Didn't you say you wanted a Jeep? If you did then you would need a 4Runner to make a path for you? LOL :biggrin2:

Oh so "Jeep" doesn't just describe actual Jeeps?
So you had to make paths for everyone else, yet you want to drop the 4Runner? Then you would have to get someone else to make the paths haha!

How did you break a wheel? And how do you fix that? Wouldn't you just have to replace it?

Not my lucky weekend, broke a wheel, my laptop's hard drive failed, and I'm having hard times gettin' the new hard drive on my FreeBSD server to work. g'damn.
