Oh yeah I forgot about the hydraulic steering! Do you have any problems with the steering now? Yay for more pics! :biggrin2:

Haven't finished the hydro assist, but yeah, got some serious issues with the steering, also I broke a wheel last sunday...
Fun fun fun...
I think I'm gonna go lookin' for 18" or 19" steel wheels. Easier to find than the alloy ones.

I remember the breaking of the wheel. I thought you fixed that though? Steel wheels? wouldn't that put more stress because of increasing the unsprung weight? I'm guessing the hydro assist would combat that though?

Heh, fixed once, broke twice... Meh.
Steel wheels are stronger, heavier, and more decrese in power at lower tire air pressure.
Wheel bearings are no concern, and the steering, well, the hydro will fix that.
But yeah, in snow unsprung weight is bad.

Go ahead, I think it's ugly. Lol.
But does it work? Well, this thing seems to be doin' it alright, but I'd prefer 38" or44" or even 46" over this any day.

Oh that sucks! Did it break in the same place? Is the trade off of the stronger steel wheels and more un sprung weight worth it?

No, on the opposite side of the rim. Heh.
Will get it welded today, hopefully back on 44s next week. Now I'm just on the 38s.
Looks kinda funny on 'em.
When changing tires I noticed that my left front had turned into 5lug instead of 6 lug...
One of the spacer's bolt broke... Gonna contact MC today and show 'em pics of this, because this is by no means a heavy duty spacer if it's not stronger than original.

The weight of the steel rims is "acceptable" compared to the strenght they give.
But I'd prefer aluminium rims rather than steel... We'll see what the future brings, think I'm goin' to widen out some of the rims i got at home (stock 8" rims), prolly will go for the 18 or 19" wide. So I can use the same rims when I finally upgrade to 46" (I'm goin' nuts, I know...)

And yeah, that LC is quite freaky.

You use wheel spacers? Like universal ones or hub centric ones? What do you mean "original?" You are going to put 46" tires on your truck?! :awais: How do you widen out wheels, especially to 18 or 19"?

I'm slowly learning about this snow wheeling lol! I just wish I had snow to wheel in here.

Just the one Marlin Crawler supplies (just a shitmix until I have time to widen the axle).
By original I meant that the MC wheel bolts are not as strong as the original toyota bolts...

And yeah, 46" next time I'm gonna buy new tires (1-2 years maybe).
And the widening, well, we simply cut the rim in half, put specially made metal piece between and reweld. Pretty easy.
My steel rims are as we speak bein' widened out, hopefully back on the real tires next monday.
Put the hydro assist last weekend, it's pretty nice but it looks like I have to do something 'bout the steering pump, it seems to be pretty "lazy".

Right now I'm at work tryin' to find out where in wotan's name the effing speed readjuster is in my truck...

More pics

Okay okay, not pictures of what I've been promising, but something else that might keep you entertained.

So, on last saturday, I was changing the rear coils, putting longer and stiffer LC80 coils. It raised the rear abit more up and is better balanced now. (I'm planing to lower it by putting the coil holders more up later this summer).
Anywho, me and my nephew were starting to put my old coils in his truck when I got a phone call, friend of mine on a LC80 (HZJ80) asked me if I could go to a place called Setur with a new U-joint for his driveshaft, for he broke one while on the way over there.
Of course I said, and we jacked down my nephew's car (and mine), packed our tools together and less than an hour later we filled our 'yotas with gas/diesel (We had 'round 120l of gas/diesel each) and drove to Selfoss (a town close to Reykjavik) to get a new U-joint and from there we drove north east to Setur.

We left Selfoss around 8 'O clock and the trip to setur took 'bout 6 hours.
The weather was excellent and the snow was pretty good. Quite heavy but it wasn't much of a problem for us.

We arrived at Setur around 2 in the night, and ate our dinner and drink a few beers. Woke up 'round 8 in the morning and got ourselves ready for headin' home. (Had to finish the coil changeover and my nephew's girlfriend had to be at work 'round 4 O' clock).

The trip on the sunday was Excellent (with a big "E"), very hot and sunny, 'round 18 degrees celcius and very nice.

We arrived in Reykjavik 'round 5 PM, I was abit later than my nephew, pulled over where a 4runner was at the side of the road, apeared to have broken alternator, blown rear diff, broken transfer case, the front diff didn't work (friggin vaccum stuff) and the front wheels were like this --> /--\

I love the pics, as always. You guys have some adventures out there! The scenery is beautiful. Your nephew's truck looks pretty bad ass too. With all due respect though, your truck looks funny back on the 38s lol! I bet you wish you had the 44s on when you got stuck! :biggrin2:

And on Thursday I'll be fixin' the extra fuel tank under the truck.

It wasn't that much of irritating to get stuck, I actually enjoyed it quite alot. Haven't got stuck for few months.
And when the pic is taken, that's the first time I got stuck there, then I tried again, got stuck, then the last time I just put in 1st low and floored it....
That time it went thru'

I have some vids aswell, I'll upload them ASAP.

This rig would have rolled over if it were in the same situations I was last weekend. Extreme sideway drivin' in very heavy and wet snow.

I've never understood why all this lift is needed for so small tires. That's 44" DC/FC on c.a. 14-15" wide rims, right?
We fit 49s under those trucks with less than 6" of lift. Just attack everything with a sawzall!

Heck, I even have c.a. 7" of lift and that's WAY TOO MUCH for 44s... (Gonna lower it by 2-3" next autumn)

Anywho, nice lookin' rig, but way too much lift.
And puny wheels.
