Are White Letter Tires Tacky or Cool?

My 96 Tacoma (black)... white letters out and looked great.
My 00 4Runner (silver)... black letters out and looks great.

It's a toss up. Either way you aren't going to lose any friends. Try it with the white letters out, if you don't like it take it to a shop and have them turned in. Things to consider, if you wheel hard your white letters won't be a good choice. If you're a mall crawler just make sure you keep them clean. Either way post some pics with your choice!

My general rule is lettering on the inside! With one and only one exception the old good year lettering with the wings in the middle! like the tires on an original AC cobra

All depends on what color your truck is, also if you leave 'em out, and in a few weeks or months, you don't like their appearance? You Either go through the trouble of flipping them, OR........ Paint the letters, to match or balance out/color contrast your trucks color. :cheers:

I think it really depends on how your truck looks, your wheel choice, and your tire choice.

Some brands have good white lettering, while others really lack.

I once had my tires mistakenly mounted with white letter out. After dealing with it for a little while, the tire guy at work flipped them to black wall.

The white itself eventually yellows and looks bad... black always looks good.

Agree. White letters out on my black truck might be too much. But it looks awesome on trailhead98's truck.

On my old white '85, YES. Fit the period and style perfectly with the ARE wheels.

On my current black '02, NO, doesn't fit the overall feel of it.

White letters out looks great on a black truck. I say DO IT! There are lots of products out there to keep the white letters white. Bleche-Wite is the most popular, but others have used Orange Pumice hand cleaner to clean them up. I ran white letters on my last truck, but probably wont' on my Runner because I can't afford any tires that come with white letters.

to me it depends on the overall scheme of the car,meaning how it goes with the paint and other accessories you've added, so it's a really pick and choose sort of thing for me, my color scheme on my truck is black,silver,red...

it's hard to say i think black,white,chrome would be ok to have the lettering out,but again really depends and i'd have to see it, i'm a huge fan of white walls on classic cars and think that the white lettering in some cases actually looks good on some modern cars/trucks, it's really alot more subjective then, yes, i like them or no ,i do not like them....

My T4R in question is a bland, Dune-colored, grocery getter. It won't look sporty or tough. Hmmm, maybe the white letters would make me look like a rock-crawling poser. :boxer: Wouldn't want to do that.

personally it matters on the vehicle, my black '02 I keep black wall out since I don't feel like cleaning the letters after trail riding or just from crap on the roads.

BradB, that is a very clean truck you have there. Someone obviously took good care of it.

I generally like the whites out, but I agree with others it does depend on the manufacturer. Bleche Wite is an easy product to spray on and hose off to keep them clean. Here is a pic of my stock '97 desert dune similar to yours with the whites out.

Nothing wrong with Desert Dune & White Letters IMO.

What's great is...try it, don't like it...then change it! No harm done.

Well, it seems like I will have to change my vote. I normally like the white letters out (although only the outlines). I got some new tires yesterday, but had to put the whites in...only because they say FIERCE in BIG WHITE LETTERS. Needless to say, this was an easy choice...while I like the tires, I'm not rocking the word Fierce all over them...So Gay
