ArkMaster Build Thread

Well, she's up and good to go again. I ended up replacing the LBJ bolts on both sides with a grade 5 bolt as to avoid this happening again! I also replaced my passenger LBJ due to the bolt being half stripped from sliding on the ground. I still get to replace my driver LBJ and get an alignment which will be done by monday. As for now, Shes good to wheel, though I don't want to DD her yet without alignment. I still get to warranty 2 tires, clean her up, and get pictures of the new rear bumper.

Grade 5 or grade 8?? Grade 5 is the standard bolt, grade 8 is HD.

I did grade 5 though I may replace them with a grade 8. Haven't yet decided.

Correct me if I am wrong... But aren't the OEM LBJ bolts grade 10...? And supposed to be locked in with some loctite?

I could be wrong, but I feel like I remember that from when I replaced mine.

I've always seen and heard to use the "blue" strength loctite on them. And i've only bought them from Toyota, no idea what they are rated at. I just know that OEMs torqued to the proper value with some loctite makes them one less thing to worry about. Change them when you change your LBJs.

Metric grade 10.9 is equivalent to SAE grade 8. Metric 8.8 is grade 5.

You could all be right. Wanna know the good news? They are inexpensive and easy to replace :girl:

I'll probably replace them again just to be safe and keep the others as a backup in the truck. I'll go get them from a dealer! Thanks for the info everyone!

Post a photo of just how thick the side walls are

Here you go!

So on top of everything, started school again and my new job Monday. I go to school at 9, go to work straight after, and than get home about 9. It's safe to say I'm exhausted. But I have a killer job and I'll be done with school in a year! And I got to park next to this badass rig:

If you can't tell, it's a rear SAS'ed xterra. Modified bumper with a swing out tire carrier, sliders, and a brush guard in the front. I hope to meet him and maybe have another local wheeling buddy.

I found out a local TW guy runs a Firestone in Murray so I'm going up tomorrow to get her aligned after the new LBJ and I'll do it again when I replace the driver side as well. I get to call 4WP and get my tire warrantied. My driver front tire also has a manufacturer defect so I'll replace warranty both and throw them on the back to keep the treads even. Oh yeah! Bumper pics! Here's one and I'll get more this weekend! Hallelujah to three day weekends! :llama:

You know every xterra ever sold has a solid rear axle...right? The 2nd gens even had an elocker in the back as an option.

Are you sure? I swear they are IFS all the way around. Learn something every day I suppose. haa. Still a badass rig though! Thanks for correctly me!:lookout:

I went wheeling yesterday! We never made it to the trail we wanted to hit due to the SASed 86' pickup breaking a front U-joint, then an axle shaft, then he lost a bolt for his steering and lost his steering, so no technical stuff, but I still was able to get a few pics!

At the top were a bunch of abandoned mine shafts which was pretty cool!

Also, today I noticed my pinion leaking gear oil. Apparently it came lose knocking it while wheeling. It also had tons of shit around the bolt. Cleaned the up. I ended up sanding and painting all my armor in prep for the Low Range Show n' Shine on Saturday. Also Saturday I got her aligned after all the breaking of stuff, as well as safety and emissions. It's safe to say they liked the 4runner since the guy who ran it had a modded Tacoma, they passed my exhaust being under the cab, no sway bears, and have me "advice on what to replace so I can pass next year. " looks like I'm replacing belts, inner tie rod, a battery cap, and my 3rd brake light! :couch:

Another update.

1st: Does anybody have the part number for OEM Toyota inner tie rods? Mine get to be replaced.

2nd: Part number for OEM Toyota belts? The 3 in the front. Alternator, fan belt, and ac belt? Correct me if i'm wrong.

3rd: I contacted 4WP regarding my 2 tires and they should be covered by the warranty. They are contacting Goodyear and will have them shipped to SLC store in about 2 weeks, maybe sooner.

Also, after having my Duratracs for a while now, I feel like I can give them an honest review. They are a great tire, but I hate them. They are not the tire for me. They are a great tire for somebody that wheels once a month, and drives the majority of the time, however I have been wheeling 2-3 times a week and daily driving them. I love them on the road, not a single complaint. Easy to balance, smooth ride, and quiet. The real beef I have with them is off-road. They are good off-road but it is apparent to me that they are not a full blow "off-road tire". With how much off-road travel mine see, they just aren't quite holding up as well as i'd like. They are meant for the happy median. Having said that, I plan on wheeling the hell out of these guys, and at about 40% tread, i'll buy another tire. I'm open to suggestions on what you guys are running and loving off-road.
Now back to your regularly scheduled panda. :panda:

1)
Inner Tie Rod 45503-39075

2)

AC Compressor Belt 99364-20870-78
Alternator Belt 90080-91090-83
Power Steering Belt 90080-91126-83

Still loving my KM2s. Not too loud for the street, and they've hooked up great everywhere I've had them. The 255/85 flavor are about $225 each last time I looked, less if you get them on sale.

Got E-rated Duratracs on the Wiferunner, and they're great for everything we do in that truck (county roads, fire trails, grocery store parking lot, etc). But I've seen enough horror stories now to be convinced, and I probably won't risk trying to wheel them hard very often now.

I am considering km2s. Though when i go up, I'm going 35s. Theres no stopping me :uzi: As for the Duratracs, I agree. They just aren't holding up to my wheeling and are literally falling apart.

Recently, I've been contemplating where I want to go with this build. 90% of the guys I wheel with all have solid axle rigs and well, I want one too. This leaves me with 3 choices. Get an 85 or older t4r or pickup with a SFA, Get a 1st gen t4r or late 80's pickup and SAS that since it would likely be significantly less expensive, or SAS the 4runner. After being with it for a few weeks, I'm going to keep the runner and SAS the hell out of it.

The plan is to first SAS it using a D60 up front, and a 14 bolt rear. I'm building it for 40's, I'll most likely run 37's. Going Linked all the way around. Do it once. Do it right. That's as far as I have planned. I haven't yet researched suspension and such so i'll be starting that process. I'm going to be piecing it together through the classifieds, eBay(which I now work at! WOO!), and any other platforms I come across.

After I SAS and put the 37's on, The plan is to chop, bob, dove nose and dove tail it. I will either make it like a double cab tacoma, or I'll ditch the rear doors, plate them in with custom windows, Weld the rear shut with the t4r hatch. This option would look something like this:

It would be more dove tailed though. I have yet to come across a 3rd gen dove nosed. I'm sure there are some out there but I haven't seen them.I will then cage the whole thing with custom front and rear bumpers. I guess we will just wait and see. Also I am still looking for a solid list of parts needs for the one ton SAS. I would love any input or advice. Thanks!

Let the part searching begin :fish2:
