Several folks mentioned that there is a 2 second delay with the homelink transmitter. I stated I have very little delay at all with my plain vanilla OEM opener (non rolling code, FYI).

It's a mundane matter, but this is a discussion forum. So we're commenting and discussing, n00b. If there's no "point" for you, then obviously you're on the wrong thread, grasshopper.

I'm here to help. I think you missed the point of it. Just looking for a logical explanation.

It was the thought process that the rolling code may take longer. My grey sears rolling code box works just as fast as the mirror.

Offhand I'd say the fcc made the rolling code remotes not emit a constant source. Thus the slower response time. Aka the Homelink blinking light signal for the rolling code remotes verses the solid light displayed for non rolling code remotes. The Canadian remote programming may even require you to press the remote more often to program any Homelink device.

Toyota wants to sell packages...:fishing:..Still bottom line... even Toyota and Southeastern Toyota haven't made a compass mirror kit for the 4Runner since 06, and that was only a compass auto dim mirror. So this thread is a valid work around for the owners that want the accessory. The same accessory being installed in other Toyota's too!!!

Really! Interesting ... I had a 2004 Highlander prior to purchasing my 2009 T4R -- the Highlander had some of the higher end accessories -- 8 way seat, JBL stereo, etc., but it was NOT a top of the line Limited. And ... it did have an OEM auto dim compass mirror.

I don't like having a vehicle without a compass, and I prefer the compass mirrors, as I have found that the aftermarket auto compasses are clunky, and are crap. So I'm changing out the plain jane rear view mirror in my runner.

For those of you that have done this install with the wires tapped into the moonroof console wires, does your mirror flash on and then off for a half-second when you lock/unlock the doors with your remote while the vehicle is off? That is, when the chime sounds and the turn signals flash, the mirror flashes on for a half-second as well.

Very strange; I put a voltmeter on the moonroof console wires I connected the mirror to. When connected to the ground and the Acc-on wires, the voltmeter shows 0 volts with the car off, as expected, and when I hit the lock or unlock button on the remote, the voltmeter shows a blip of voltage going through. Must be why the mirror is flashing on; strange thing is why that's happening.

Took a look at a wiring diagram and it looks like I had the mirror power wire connected to the body ECU wire instead of the Acc-On wire. Once switched around, it's working correctly. Too bad I lost a clip from the map light console inside the roof when re-installing it. Looks like it's gonna be a pain to get out.

Bought it from the seller "camsmirrors" It's used, but comes with all the mounting and wiring necessities. Not sure he has another with amber display though.

Think I just got a good deal....I picked up a Gentex 453 Homelink mirror with autodim and amber compass from ebay seller "camsmirrors" for $130 shipped. He has 100% positive feedback, so I'm pretty comfortable that this will work. Can't wait to install it....I've had Homelink mirrors on my previous 3 cars.

So I was able to get a used Auto dimming mirror w/ compass originally from a corolla for my used 2008 4-runner..
I was about to follow the instruction when I open the moonroof/sunroof control and to my surprise I found a 5-pin blue connector wrap up together with the connector of the sunroof console harness.

Now I am wondering if that is connector for the rear view mirror?
Any feedback will be appreciated.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and also installed this mirror and have the same issue with
the lights flashing on the mirror when I press the lock/unlock button, could you tell me what wire did you end up using to solve this problem.
