Aux fan for AC

Hello all,

I want to put an electric pusher fan on the AC condenser of my wife's 04 V8. The AC starts blowing less than cold air when she is in traffic or sitting at a light here in the Vegas summer. The system itself is in good shape, new compressor, Freon was recharged, new fan clutch and the rest of the system was checked. All work was done at the Toyota dealership. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for which wire I should tap the relat into on the compressor to start the fan when the AC compressor is running.

You did not replace the condenser. It might be clogged.

I would definitely change out the condenser if that was not done. The condenser contains the accumulator/dryer which can be changed out separately
but the condenser can get clogged or restricted.

You can use the Y/R wire coming off the pressure switch which is located on the pass side lower corner in front of the condenser.

I know you say the system is in good condition - but if it's blowing warmer air to the point your wife is uncomfortable, something is not working properly. Good advice above.

I wonder if the Lexus GX470 AC fan will bolt on a 4th gen, since they're both 120 series chassis. The relay powering the GX fan is triggered by the compressor clutch + from its own relay. I can post the diagram later.

Sean - are you seeing cold vent temps when driving normally? If so, you might have an air flow problem. Adding a aux pusher fan is a band aid, not the solution IMHO. If your vent temps get cold at higher speeds but then gets warm during stop lights, then not enough air is going through your condenser. Assuming everything else has been taken care of, including the proper amount of freon in the system, you need to figure out why the fan clutch isn't pulling enough air through the condenser.

Two things could be happening here: your fan clutch fluid is toast and need to be replaced or the "timing" of your fan clutch is off. The fan clutch is engaging a little too late and not when you're idling.

The viscous fluid in the clutch is replaceable and doing a search on the 'net should yield with instructions. Same thing applies for setting the timing of the fan clutch as well. I did this on my landcruiser from many threads on this topic in the IH8MUD.com | Your Online Toyota Land Cruiser Offroad Resource site, look in the 80 series section for instructions.

Thanks everyone! One last question... Since our fan clutch and compressor was replaced we were in Northern California and down Hwy 1 to Pismo Beach towing our pop-up. AC worked fine blew cold and we had no temp issues towing. Wasn't until we got back to Vegas in 105 to 110 degrees that the air starts to struggle. This is why I was thinking about the Aux fan. Also is there a wire that is only hot when the compressor is running that I can tap? Thanks again everyone s time and help!
