Eclipse Sirius
I finally got the Eclipse 5435 with the Sirius tuner installed this weekend past.
However, The Sirius tuner took a dump and quit working. All I get is a boring Screen "Aquiring " :bash: Called tech support for both Sirius and Crutchfield. No help there. Crutchfield is gonna send out another tuner. I was just getting used to Sirius and really loving not having to listen the terrible Atlanta radio stations here. The unit ont be here for a week.:awais:
Glenn, I got a question for you. Where did you mount your Sirius tuner unit? I put mine under the glove box. i dont know if that was a factor in my woes. If you have a better place id like to here or see it if you have pics. Thanks

Glenn, I guess you missed my question earlier. got a question for you. Where did you mount your Sirius tuner unit? I put mine under the glove box. i dont know if that was a factor in my woes. If you have a better place id like to here or see it if you have pics. Thanks

Because I have both a Sirius Eclipse tuner and an XM Commander, I mounted both under the drivers seat. I have my Kenwood amateur radio under the other seat. All of the units are mounted on plywood spaced up to allow the rear seat ducts to flow.
The Sirius tuner is so small if it was the only one I would have velcroed it to the left side defrost duct. The Nav antenna is on the right duct.
In the LA-Orange County area XM has a very strong repeater while Sirius is much weaker.
I have the XM antenna in front of the dash cluster at the edge of the window and the Sirius antenna at the rear of the truck on the roof about six inches in. Both work fine for me.
Since I have loaned my camera to my sister you will have to use your imagation.

What happens if you do not connect the Speed, Backup, and Parking Brake wires? Can you just ground them to diable these safefy features. My passenger would be operating the unit net me when driving.
Also, can this system play DVD movies? Details? If I understand it the factory NAV can not unless you buy their DVD player in the back.
BTW, I'm now shopping for a 06 V6 and NAV is hard to find so looking into aftermarket.

The speed and reverse wires are required for proper operation. The parking brake wire can be grounded instead of going to the parking brake and all functions will work when you are moving.
I hooked mine up to ground through a switch but I usually leave the switch on.
The unit will play DVDs moving or not but it will not navigate at the same time.

The factory unit has blue tooth and can have a voice microphone.
The Eclipse can play DVDs and the back up camera can be turned on at any time.
Factory sat is XM and Eclipse is Sirius.
The backlight on the buttons is green instead of orange. I do not mind but it really bothers some people.

So, doing the above DVD will play when moving but what did you mean by "The unit will play DVDs moving or not but it will NOT navigate at the same time"?
Do you mean that the NAV DVD must be removed to watch a Movie DVD? If so, I understand this. Just want to make sure that with the parking brake wire grounded (and NAV DVD is in) the NAV system will work with ALL features.
The unit calibrates itself from the speed wire vs the gps speed when it is first installed. After that it uses both signals for more accurate tracking. I know it tracks OK when I pull out of my garage before it has GPS lock.
From reading other posts if the reverse wire is not hooked up the display gets confused when you back up while it figures out what you are doing. The backup wire is also used to automatically switch on the backup camera if it is installed.
When the nav disk is removed and a dvd is inserted you can view the dvd at any time as long as the parking brake wire is grounded.
Two other things the Eclipse does that I forgot to mention is that it plays MP3s and it has an additional audio video input.

According to another post it looks like with the 06 factory NAV you can also install Sirius. Can you confirm? see:

With the AVN5435 you can also add options such as a TV turner. Silly I know but still kind of cool.
